After graduation, I worked for a few years in a print shop, while attending college at night. That just didn't seem to be working for me, so in 1972, I joined the California Air National Guard and went away for Basic Training and nine months of Electronics School - trying to find myself. Through this training, I discovered that electronics was fun as a "hobby", (Still into HAM Radio; KF6EZW) but decided that I didnt want to work in that career field for the rest of my life. After getting my Private Pilot's License, I considered flying for a living......but,...... When I returned home from Air Force Tech School, I began spending a large amount of time at the gym, eventually getting into heavy lifting. I started spotting for a cop, and he convinced me to take some college Law Enforcement courses to see if it felt like a good fit. . In December of 1975, I began my 31 year career with the Orange County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 2007. It turned out to be a GREAT fit. Although I never would have considered a career in law enforcement while in high school, I cannot imagine a career where I would have had as much fun, learned as much about people, and felt the sense of accomplishment that I have - not to mention retirement at age 53.
