Kitt Knisley:

CLASS OF 1967
Waterford, MI

Kitt's Story

Life June 26, 2006 Hi! It’s me, Kitt, class of 67.’ Hope life has been treating everyone well. Like everyone else, my life has had it’s ups and downs. Basically I'm pretty happy. I have two sons. My oldest Todd, has a daughter, Brynn, and two sons: Kitt (yeah, after me!) and Jake, with number three; Joey, on the way. Bryan, my younger son, has one son so far. His name is Parker… Let me back up a bit… Before retiring from the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan in 2000, I was living on Lake St. Clair. I spent as much of my time as I could on my boat partying and exploring the Great Lakes. With my lifetime passion of being on the water, it seemed natural that my next step would be to make money on the water. So I got my U.S.C.G. Captains License. I now hold a 100 ton masters license. Just before retiring, I worked part-time on the boat, “Infinity” at Jefferson Beach Marina on Lake St. Clair. Eventually, I missed my sons who were single, and living in Las Vegas. I decided to go there and spend time with them. My original plan was to spend one year there. After three, I somehow owned a house, and was working as a captain at Lake Mead Cruises in Boulder City, Nevada-just outside Las Vegas. All the while, I traveled the Southwest and did lots of hiking. The most memorable hike was the Grand Canyon. In one day, I hiked to the bottom at Phantom Ranch and back out…so much for the signs, “Do not attempt to hike to the bottom and out in one day.” After three years in Las Vegas, I became restless and considered buying a trowler to live on and travel the seas. After awhile, that idea was scrapped and I opted for a vacation in Hawaii. While laying on the beach at Waikiki, I decided that I could very well live in Hawaii…so I moved to Maui! There I worked on the “Spirit of La...Expand for more
haina”, a snorkel/dive boat by day and dinner cruise by night. On that boat, I met my current girlfriend, Andrea. After a few months working together we decided to work for Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado where we became ski bums for the winter. Summer came and we bought a 37 foot motorhome and traveled the U.S. we stopped at South Padre Island, Texas, where I worked as a captain for Breakaway Cruises doing dolphin watches and booze cruises. After a year and a half of traveling in the motorhome, we sold it and headed back to Maui, which is where we are now. I’m now working for Island Marine Institute, driving various boats that are 65-120 ft. for snorkel, whale watch, dinner cruises, and inter-island ferry. We spend our time scuba diving, hiking, and traveling the other islands, all the while enjoying life in the sun. Update 8/07-No longer living on Maui. We moved to Oahu a few months ago because my girlfriend was unable to get the classes that she needed to take on Maui. We're living in Waikiki, and we're working out of Kewalo Basin. I'm driving a cool boat...53 ft. with twin ultra jets...a thrill ride boat called the Honolulu Screamer. I got Andrea a job on the boat as my first mate, so we work and play together. We've also taken up kiteboarding. Todd and his family moved to Colorado, and I'll be flying in to visit for a mini-family reunion in September, then back to Oahu. Another update 10/07-After visiting my family in Colorado, I decided to buy a home there, just outside of Colorado Springs. I miss my family, and my grandkids are growing up without getting to know me. Hawaii is just too far away from everything and everybody. I love Colorado, so it's a good thing. Aloha! Kitt.
