Krista's Story

Hi everyone! My apologies to anyone who's tried to get in touch with me before. I finally spent enough time on Classmates to figure out how to get around a little bit, and realized how much fun it is to check up on old friends. I was so disappointed when I'd find someone I remembered and there was no story that I decided I'd better write something in here to go with my photos. I haven't really talked to anyone in our class since Berkner, so I guess I'll backtrack to 1984- I went straight to SWTSU to play volleyball, where I probably should have stayed, but injuries and homesickness brought me back to Richardson after one year. Played at Richland CC for two seasons, then was recruited and signed as a transfer student with U of F (Gators). Anyone who saw my photo album doing the math? Not long after signing, I realized I wouldn't be moving to Florida, but getting married (quickly) instead. So, in August, (when I should have been going through two-a-days), I married Steve Feather, an SMU student at the time, (and a pretty good volleyball player). We had Billy Feb. '88, and he's been nothing but a joy ever since. I continued to play adult volleyball after Billy was born; in fact, in the early 90's my partner and I managed to qualify in several WPVA events (beach doubles). We had a lot of fun traveling and playing against some of the best in the game. Unfortunately, I still had a lot of growing up to do, and Steve and I divorced in '94. Volleyball has always been very, very good to me. In '96 I was offered a different sort of scholarship; this time to assistant coach and attend classes at Baylor U in Waco. My sister Cory was ...Expand for more
going into her Sr. season there, and the former assistant was leaving. The hardest part was leaving my kindergartener in Garland with his dad. Several factors convinced me that was the best decision, but I've never made a harder one to live with! I got to play one last qualifier in '96 (this time with my sister Cory!) It was in Austin, and we were one of 3 sister teams to make it into the draw that day. One of the others was Nikki and Carrie Busch, both of whom were All-Americans at UT. That tournament will always be a very special memory for me. That was the same year Baylor moved from the Southwest Conference to the Big 12: bye, bye coaching staff! Strike three- still (to this day) no degree! If I could have a do-over, I'd get that done on the first go-round, but I'm not dead yet! I also met my current husband, Todd Sheldon, through volleyball. He and Cory's boyfriend/ husband Jason were doubles partners, and there was a connection from the night Jason introduced us. Todd and I have been married for 10 years now, and it just keeps getting better. We have two wonderful children, Doug and Kelly, who go to elementary school across the street from our house in McKinney. We have two dogs and a cat (is there another avg. American family stat I can pack in here?) Oh, yeah, two cars! No motorcycle, yet, but Todd's working on it. I would love to have land in the country and horses (just like most of the population in the Metroplex), but I'm pretty happy right where I am. If you're reading this, thanks for caring enough to catch up! It's a long story, but I figured somebody out of my hundreds of classmates just might be curious!
