Kristi's Story
Life
I went to Jackson Jr. High and then to Stephen F. Austin for about 2 months. I quit school and got married but that only lasted about 6 years. I spent the next few years as a single mother who now had no education and no way to raise a child.
I eventually obtained my GED and landed in the Insurance industry. I currently hold a General Agents license and am a Commercial Account Manager for the fourth largest Insurance Broker worldwide. I've been in the insurance industry for 40 years..
I also enjoy doing volunteer work. I served as a volunteer EMT for 10 years and served 5 of that 10 years on the Board of Directors for the oldest non-profit EMS service in Texas. When I had my 3rd child, life got pretty hectic and I figured charity began at home and decided I needed to spend more time raising my family. I am a member of a competition BBQ cook team and we compete regularly in local cook-offs; especially those benefiting St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Tennessee and basically anyone falling victim to cancer. The cook team that I am a member of competes at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Cookoff annually as well as for several of our surrounding counties. Our team holds several titles; among which are, 2001 Reserve Grand Champion at Rodeo, 2007 Harris County Grand Champions, 2008 Washington County Grand Champions, 2010 Grand Champions for White Dove of Hope not to mention we've been invited numerous times to cook the American Royal in Kansas City; which is by invitation only.
Thirty years later I am divorced, have 5 children (1-girl; 4-boys), 11 grandchildren (8 boys, 3 girls), 2 dogs, and live in Waller, Texas! Waller is a small town about halfway between Tomball and Hempstead.
At this point in my life, I am very involved with my church and a number of other groups indirectly associated with HLSR. Almost all ...Expand for more
that I'm involved with have been established for the sole purpose of raising money to help put kids through college, help those less fortunate and winning soles for the kingdom of Heaven. I know, right????
I truly believe that God has a plan for us all and it's not our place to question what that is. Our place is to find our calling and live life to the fullest and be the very best that we can be. I also believe the more your give to others and bless their lives; the more blessed your life will be.......
School
My one true love was Travis Smith. You know what they say...your first love is a forever love. The teacher who inspired me the most was Mr. Ronald Crabb, my choir teacher. I only wish I could go back and do it all over again. I most certainly would do it differently. Some of my fondest, funniest and happiest memories are those of me and Travis hanging out at his brother and sister-in-laws house , and me, Gaeby Nutter and Bobby Thurman hanging out in the school yard together.
College
I didn't go to a 4 year college; although, I did attend a community college. The purpose was to obtain my Emergency Medical Technician certification.
Workplace
Over the years I have done pretty much everything from retail to becoming a licensed professional. Not bad for no college education egh? My first "real" job (other than flipping burgers) was working for the old Woolco Department store that use to be on E. Little York. I believe I was 19 years old. I worked there until they closed down. From there, I went to work for my mother who owned an answering service. I got tired of working the night shift and decided to use my acquired skills to land a job as a receptionist at an independent claims adjusting firm. From there, I moved into the underwriting side of the insurance business and 40 years later here I am, a licensed insurance agent.
