Kristie's Story

Life Went to University of Delaware after Masuk for 2 years. Got bored in Monroe for almost another year. Then moved out to Los Angeles. Went to the Vidal Sassoon Academy to become a cosmetologist and soon couldn't take LA anymore. Moved up to San Francisco in 1991. Started working at a salon called Architects & Heroes. Did an apprenticeship for almost 2 years then cut hair and taught another 3 years there. Met some amazing people. Got into some cool underground music-the Jesus Lizard, Dog Faced Hermans, Zeni Geva, anything Alternative Tentacles. Loved seeing Jello at the shows. Saw many amazing shows. A great friend really inspired me. I wanted to play music. I bought a bass guitar, but nothing came of it. too bad. I still have the fantasy. I totally wish I went into NYC more when I lived so close. I opened up my own salon, the 1101 in 1996. 209 Post Street #1101. It was a fabulous little shop, just big enough for myself. SF was booming! The dot-com thing was happening. Then my building was sold in 1999 and everyone had to move out. What a shame! It was an amazing location. Just a block from Union Square. I moved to a salon nearby. Nothing special. Then I got pregnant, got married to my man, Rich, and started doing the mom thing. I still work two days a week, but mostly hang out with my two boys - Magnus and Draggon. Magnus was born in August, 2000 and Draggon in April, 2002. We go to museums, movies and the many playgrounds around us. We are only a block from Golden Gate Park. There is so much to do here! This city is great. I love it. I think we are moving to LA again though, ugh. I think I maybe could like it this time. My oldest sister Julie lives there. And, my sister Laurie and her husband Scott opened up 707 on Main in Monroe. My mom even hostesses on Friday nights. Norm is hanging around there too. Well, since I wrote my initial bio, things have been happening. My little guy, Draggon, started preschool, so I started getting more into the creative side of myself. ction of thrift store clothes and stuff (mostly junk-I am such a packrat), that I wanted to do something with it. I used some old fur coats and started creating. I made some funky keychains and then I made some earrings which were such a hit with my friends that I moved forward on that. In December, 2005, I had a showing-my debut exhibition- and it rocked, about 100 people came to show their support. So, now I am working on my new collection and trying to get it into more stores, especially in NY and LA. My line is called Krista Accessories. Living in California has been great. I have so many great friends. I really have an unbelievable support team-my friends are there for me and encourage me every step of the way. My husband, too. I feel so lucky. I think it would be amazing if my things started making it into magazines. I just need to keep moving forward and make it all happen. Positivity. And I did start a band with four other moms from magnus's class! I am finally playing that bass. I think I will be taking singing lessons soon too. It's about time. I did have another trunk show in December 2007 and that went well. Still working away. Marketing is my least favorite part of my business. Started those singing lessons, practicing the bass. I am living my life. I want happiness for myself and everyone around me. I have such a full life and feel very fortunate. Busy, but exciting. ok, so I did those singing lessons and decided to be the singer of the band. (our initial singer moved to austratlia) we had a new mom in magnus's class this year and she had been working on the bass. at the big birthday bash this year, we played and I think I rocked it out pretty good. I never thought I would be able to do that in front of a big crowd, but I did. (it was nice that they are all amazing friends too.) I think I surprised them all. I'm gonna keep on rocking. do what you love. School University of Delaware 1986-1988 Vidal Sassoon Academy 1990-1991 Architects & Heroes apprenticeship September 13, 1991- August 13, 1993
