Kristie's Story

Life Life sure has been interesting since high school days! I keep quite busy, and look forward to getting out and going to movies, finding new and fun things to do in SD, weekend getaways when I have the chance, and going to shows. I love to walk the beach with my husband, and enjoy hiking Cowles Mountain! I have been living in Lakeside since 2001 (moved to Temecula for about 8 years). I have been back on campus at El Cap....my son is a sophomore (on the cross country and the track team)! WOW! Walking through the halls brings back so many memories. I was recently married in July to my best friend, Jerry, and I am really happy! He makes me laugh...A LOT, and life is lots of fun! We love the same things, and he has been my partner in many new adventures! I am a busy mom. I have 3 kids of my own, and am a step-mom to Jerry's son, who lives with us full-time! that's for sure! (my son is 15, two girls, 11 and 8, and my step-son is 7). I continue to volunteer for the Down Syndrome Association of SD (dsasdonline.org). I am currently serving my fourth term as President, and have been involved with the organization for over 7 years. I coordinate various events, and am the Chairperson for the San Diego Buddy Walk. My oldest daughter has Down syndrome. She is an inspiration to me as well as to everyone who knows her. Because of her, I have been inspired to get involved, to advocate for people with Down syndrome, to help create better program and services, and to help promote acceptance, awareness, and inclusion! I have worked as a facility administrator and house manager for an adult residential facility for consumers who have developmental disabilities since 2001. This work is challenging, but definitely is rewarding! Looking forward to our 20th reunion!
