Kurt's Story

Hi All Here is a short synopsis of my very real life: I had a short stint in the Marine Corps after HS and did well at first, graduating as top recruit "Honorman" from boot camp and soon thereafter won the base wrestling championship at Quantico in the 165 pound weight class. Unfortunately, I broke a foot and after minor surgery took a medical discharge so I did nothing with that opportunity. After being discharged I partied hearty with friends and went to San Diego CA to really cut loose and that is where too much partying took its toll. My character was majorly defective! In my ignorance I actually opened myself up to the demonic realm through the drugs & alcohol and had a couple of very terrifying and freaky experiences with unclean spirits. Fortunately, God in his mercy answered my cries for help and after a wonderful Divine encounter I gave my life to him. Thereafter things began to roll! I was filled with his presence and his Spirit and Jesus became my Savior in an ongoing experience unto this day! About 12 months after giving my life to God. I miraculously got a free ride to a wonderful private Christian College in San Diego now called Point Loma Nazarene University. It is in a beautiful location right on the ocean! I freaked out the Dean of Admissions (Dr. Cecil Miller), by telling him directly of my demonic encounters and of my Divine encounter in which God came to me in my anguish and spoke a simple comment that began the radical transformation of my life from loser to lover.¦He said €œI love you my son! Can you imagine the amazement at audibly hearing God tell me he loved me?? This encounter came even as I was clothed in my rebellion, my sin and brokenness? Just, to hear about it all blew the Dean's mind just like it is probably doing to you as you read this, and he actually picked up the telephone and called next door to the Admissions Office and said he was sending me over and to sign me up for classes immediately! Dr. Miller had only my word that I graduated from HS and had seen no transcript or SAT scores or any proof at that time, and I had no money to pay for schooling as I was broke he simply believed my amazing story of God's merciful encounter and he opened up the floodgates. I began College the winter semester of 1978. As a result, I got a great education, a BA degree, a teaching certificate and a minor in Pastoral Studies. I was twice elected to Student Government. While in school (I was so passionate that I attended year round) after just one and a half years into the whole process... God brought the woman into my life who is now my delightful wife Everyl. Ev was a vivacious and gorgeous (she still is!) 25 year old Canadian RN visiting the states for a few weeks who ended staying that entire summer in a deserted woman's dorm on campus. Oh...Expand for more
man, I fell hard for her and proposed in about one or two months. We were married in December of the same year in 1979! We found ourselves expecting our first born son Stephen, in September of 82. His pending arrival caused me to begin to build a Window Cleaning Company by ringing residential doorbells and handing out flyers. I did not even know how to properly clean a window or what a squeegee was! I began by using newspapers and Windex (what a scene)! Building the first company was tough going but I did eventually begin to get accounts and then I began to get into a groove when I got my first commercial account which expanded to janitorial work. I eventually got cleaning contracts at all Federal Express locations in the county and even pressure washed their trucks. In the course of a few more years we had two more boys, Jason & Daniel. Business kept developing and before we left San Diego, selling the companies in 1995, for Harrisburg PA, I had built the largest Commercial Window Cleaning Company in San Diego County. The business was called The Window Washers and we did most of the signature high rise buildings in downtown San Diego and surrounding areas. I was the sole sales representative throughout the time and I had also built a State licensed Powered Scaffold Inspection and Testing Company-Golden State Services. The two companies worked in tandem, the one inspecting and testing the equipment for which we were ourselves using. We also expanded to Las Vegas NV and cleaned the glass on the Luxor Casino Building and also did some work on Circus Circus. Imagine cleaning the 13 acres of glass comprising the exterior facade of the Luxor! (that's right, 13 acres) that huge black glass pyramid for the first two years of its operation! It was quite a ride! Now I know why it is not wise to build a glass pyramid in a desert, well made of black glass anyway! I came to Harrisburg Pennsylvania, where I now live, to serve God and while here have come to realize that virtually every sphere of influence (kingdom) in which a person can work occupationally is also their area of ministry. It is how the church properly functions to affect societal change. Thus will the Kingdoms of this world become Kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ! I live to serve God in my janitorial business and by being a positive force for good, for positive societal change for God, in my spheres of influence! Evy and I are looking forward to at least a good 30 more years of dynamic growth and life serving God as we affect positive change wherever we are. My prayer is that our great God & Father bless each of you and your families. He loves you more than you can possibly know! If you question that ask him to reveal himself to you and he indeed will if you seek him sincerely with all your heart! Kurt
