Kurt's Story

Kurt Rogahn (Hamilton HS '71) lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with his wife, Lynn Behmke Rogahn (Pulaski HS, '74). They are the parents of Laurel, an elementary school teacher in Cedar Rapids, IA, and son Dan, of Cedar Rapids. Dan's teen-aged son (destined for college in late 2024) has gotten Kurt to go fishing after an absence of many years, and Laurel and her husband, Jesse, have a girl, and a boy, both in elementary school. (It's great to be a grandpa.) Kurt retired in early 2021. He enjoyed a 30-year career in journalism, then 12 years as a proposal wri...Expand for more
ter for an education company, then three years on staff of a hospice as volunteer coordinator. Hobbies include working on cars, gardening, and bicycling (bikes 2,700 miles a year). He's a volunteer at a hospice, board secretary of a bike club, and was board president of the local chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). He also has served as a board member and/or officer for charitable, educational, and professional organizations. Kurt still gets to Milwaukee once in a while, where you can still get a decent fish fry on a Friday night.
