Kurt's Story
Life
After graduation, I went to NIU for a year, heard the band MASON PROFFIT, and got motivated to learn the pedal steel guitar. I joined a country band for a time and played the Black Forest Bar in Palatine. (When the owner was stabbed to death, I felt led to leave the scene and get a degree in Biblical Theology! PLEASE STOP LAUGHING!!)
All the while I was in school, I worked in an analytical research lab at AlliedSignal (now Honeywell Intl.) from 1974 to 2000. In 2001, I completely changed career paths and went into financial services. I have 4 kiddos (25 - 31 yrs), and still live in the Chicagoland area.
I remarried in 2007 to a girl from Coventry, England. Her teenaged daughters chose to stay in England rather than come to the USA which has caused alot of stress on her (and me) to put it mildly. Sadly, and eventually, she decided to go back to England and abandon the marriage to me. (so I’m a two-time loser in marriages)
Then, in 2020, I got married again to a lovely girl named Grace from the Philippines. I’m sincerely hopeful that the 3rd time is the charm.
Anyway....
I would love to see any of my old classmates Seriously... life is too short to just READ these 'classmate' bio's and do nothing... get in touch with someone! We're all old and needy now and could probably USE a 'hi-note' from somebody... ANYBODY!!) My best to all you folks! Thanks for all the awesome memories you each left with me.
School
I attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and came down with polio while in kindergarten. It was a rough situation being "the crippled kid" all through school.
Things changed a bit when I attended Paddock school for 7th & 8th grades... as I finally got rid of my leg braces and became somewhat more accepted.
(Any of you who read this may want to check those two schools and see the old CLASS Pictures I posted with NAMES AND EVERYTHING)
I went to Fremd from 67 - 70 and had a blast, being p...Expand for more
art of 4 different rock bands in 4 years, (Chimes of Freedom, West Side Monopoly, The Wynde, and Red Dirt Band) Of course we never could compare with the Nomads, Shades of Black, Tikis, Dead Toad, and others! Oh well.... I knew everyone by name and face... but wish I could have gotten to know my classmates better.
I got suspended for fighting on day 3 of senior year (Jack Karpen and I had it out on the school steps and I bloodied his nose pretty good).... and Mr. Breault never let me live it down! (Mr. Breault is now deceased) I ditched "Senior Lounge" everyday for 3 months... finally got caught and lived in the detention hall for weeks... all so I could drive to Forest View to meet Cindi Hansen as she boarded her school bus home! Good Lord, what a dumb kid I was!! oh well... Great memories at Fremd... (thank you Jeri Laschinski, Sue Osterman, Peg Carpenter, Starr White, Cindi Hansen, and Kathy Gagnon for being the most fantastic girlfriends any guy could ask for....I mean that sincerely, too!) Also let me thank PUBLICLY... Glen Moberg for being my best friend at Pleasant Hill School. ( Glen is also deceased) He never looked down on me for being crippled. Kathy Wall too... carried my books home for me more than once and caused my heart to flutter like mad but she never knew it. I felt so left out when she didn't invite me to her 8th grade graduation party!! I drove my bike past her house playing "I'm A Loser" by the Beatles on my transister radio that night.
I cannot leave out Tom Barnidge....my BEST friend throughout HS and beyond. And my buddies Phil Schurr, Dave Woodruff, and Sharlene Karnatz for making life fun! (Laura Sanders?.... I am SOOOOOO mad you and I never met back then.... You were a treasure waiting to be discovered for sure!)
LASTLY.... If anyone wants to hear the songs I wrote, WRITE ME and I may just send you a sample (How's that for a hook!)
Take care all. God bless & SMILES.
