LaJune's Story

Life -- updated somewhat on January 23, 2015 :) Although I moved from California in 1983 and now reside in Virginia, I have lived in Atlanta, Georgia as well as Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Currently, though, I stay pretty much full time with my Mother in her home in the great city (NOT;) of Thomson Georgia.(All of my children were born in California.) Update: I am now back in Virginia pretty much full time. Mother passed away in March 2011, and I miss her dearly. I was a stay-at-home mom for a number of years, homeschooling the three youngest children until they completed high school. I began when my youngest was in the third grade and my oldest was a senior in high school. (The oldest was never homeschooled, but all of his children...in fact, all of my grandchildren...are being [or will be, or have been] home educated.) It seems that political activism was a large part of my family's life for many years. That is probably not surprising to some of you who might read this and remember my high school history. I never really aspired to become a public official, but I did run for office way back in 1986. (That is something I would never do again.) I never really had a career, although I did work in the banking arena for a few years, which eventually led me into the field of bookkeeping. (I also sold Home Interior and Gifts for 5 years.) Being a stay-at-home mom and training up my children (or having them train me up :) gave me more pleasure than anything else I did. My personal interests have always had something to do with sewing or crafts. My oldest son's wife taught me to cross-stitch, and I would say that if I had a passion for a craft, it would be that. In 2002 a new adventure began when I became co-owner of a scrapbooking business. After spending 2 years running ScrapFun events, store ownership became a necessary reality. The store was once known across the good old USA due to the writings of my daughter being published in various hobby industry venues. (Ahem...for ideas and editing of said articles, she turned to her dear Mother...me :) Sad to say, this is now past tense. The Cropper's Corner closed in Aug...Expand for more
ust 2008. As for grandchildren, here are the latest stats :) My oldest son, James, and his wife, Rebekah, added one more to their family in September 2008. Samuel Courage Anton Lundquist joined his 10 brothers and sisters: Jonathan, Karen, Robert, Sarah, Christopher, Michelle, Mary, Matthew, Hannah and Stephen. (May little Samuel grow to be a courageous man :) Since writing this, the family has grown ... and we now have Joseph, Timothy, and Grace, the newest grandchild, who was born August 31, 2014. In January 2009 Abigail Sophia Joy Kanak was born to my daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Shaun. Abbie was born at home, and smiled from day one...REALLY :) This was child number 5 for them, and this little surprise bundle joined Christopher, Kathryn, Joshua and Elizabeth. Update: My daughter's family moved to Italy for 3-5 years in October 2013. That stay may be shortened because of new opportunities for them here. :) In a little town close to Savannah, Georgia, you will find my second born son, Scott, and his wife, Jenny. They keep busy with their family of 6...who are Craig, Katie, Jenna, Michael, Kelly, and Chad. Son, Mark, the youngest, lives in Virginia, and plays on championship kickball leagues...amateur of course. He is very handsome(prejudice mom here) and still single ;) Mark does have a real job in accounting, but is CFO of a social sports network, thus the kickball league and more (kickball 365). Whew! So, if you do the math, a tug-of-war would put 13 boys on one side and 12 girls on the other. The eldest of the grandchildren is 22. (When you say 25 grandchildren...WOW...that sounds like alot...and it is...but there is always room to love one more :) Perhaps my life is not as interesting as other lives, but it is mine, and I have been blessed more than I deserve. I have had, overall, a happy life. Do not misunderstand me...it has not been a perfect life...far from it...and the lessons to be learned are continuing, making life not only interesting, but challenging. Would I ever leave Virginia? Being somewhat adventurous, and even though I am very much at home in the south, I would never say never.
