Larona's Story

Find me on Facebook! I'm happily married to my best friend, Virgil Son. We have 4 awesome kids: Aly, short for Alexandrea, (24), Joshua (18), Brianna (16), and Grant (14). Our oldest daughter Aly and her husband Mike have given us 3 gorgeous grandbabies: Adyson (5) and Gavin (4) and Gabriel (<1). Ally, like me, is a homeschool mom. I could not be happier with what God is doing in her life. I am a RN, but only work part time because of homeschooling, and I only work at all to pay for Joshua's tuition. He's a writing major at Oral Roberts University. (I'm secretly praying that he will change it to a Theology major. But of course, God's will, not mine. ) He is a certified Worldview Instuctor, of which I am very pleased. I surrendered my life to Jesus on March 13, 2004. My life was immediately and radically saved. A couple of weeks later he saved my husband Virgil, filled us both with his Spirit, and we now serve him together. We are involved in children's ministry, are lay evangelists with the CMA, and I am a co-founder and President of T.O.R.C.H. (Texarkana Organization for Resolute Christinan Homeschoolers). Before Jesus we were on our way to divorce, and we had already been down that road, but Jesus healed our marriage. We are more in love than we have ever been. He has renewed my relationship with our children, who all know him, and given us the opportunity to bond anew as a family. He also healed my anxiety, and gave me his perfect peace. Now when something appears to be going wrong I rest in Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, who are the called according to his purpose." This is where the arrogance I spoke of earlier comes in. I used to think it was all about me, and that I could "handle" my life. The truth is, it isn't really about me at all, it's really all about Him. The problems in my life weren't someone else's fault, nor were they due to poor decision making, they were due to sin. All people are born in rebellion against the laws of God: you shall not lie (even a white one), you shall not steal (even as a kid), thou shalt not use the name of the Lord thy God in vain (or as a cuss word, which is blasphemy), thou shalt not commit adultery (Jesus said if a man looks upon a woman with lust he has already committed adultery with her in his heart). We are all, without Jesus, lying, thieving, blasphemous adulterers at heart. And if God judges us by these standards, and he does, that means we are guilty and would go hell, not heaven. Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God". As a result we are slowly destroying ourselves. The more we sin, the more miserable we become, and the more we hurt others. True Christians do not believe they are perfect, the opposite. We know that without Christ, there is nothing good in us, the Bible says we are bent toward evil. I definitely saw this playing out in my life, I would eventually destroyed everything I came into contact with. Romans 3:10 says, "There is none righteous, no, not one" and Romans 6:23 says, "the wages ...Expand for more
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." We die when sin separates us from God, because he is the source of all life. Every time you sin something dies (love, trust, reputation, goodness, ect...), because of the sin in this world we are all physically dying, and if you pass away in sin you will be separated from God forever (go to hell). This is called the law of sin and death, and is more certain than the law of gravity. It is when we realize that we are sinners, and can't be good on our own, that we come to the end of ourselves and can then turn to Jesus. Then, if we confess our sin, believing that He is the Son of God, that he lived a perfect, sinless life and that by dying on the cross, he took our punishment for us (and death upon himself defeating it) we become "born again" or spiritually alive. John 3:3 says "most assuredly I say unto you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God". Romans 10:9 says "confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Jesus was God's plan from the very beginning. John 14:6 says "Jesus said to him "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" God's way is the only way. God doesn't discriminate, no matter how someone may consider themselves. Acts 10:34 says "Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons", and Romans 10:13 says, "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved". We don't become sinless when we get saved, but we become "the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus" meaning our sins are "covered" so when God looks at us, he no longer sees our sins and imperfections. Psalm 103:12 says "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." If the God of the Universe chooses to forgive us, who are we to remind ourselves? We are now free to have joy, peace and "abundant life". And as you love him, rejoicing in what he did for you, his Spirit works within you to actually change you into his image. This change is a work in progress; Philippians 1:6 says, "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ ". But be aware that when you are saved, you will change. Jesus said in Matthew 7:18 "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit." You will begin to desire different things, you'll no longer like things you used to like. It's not about having to give up something. It's about a change of heart. Anyone can have what I have, and everyone needs what I have. I share this message because it is one of hope. It is the answer to guilt, shame, failure and fear of death. It is also the answer to lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. God bless you and feel free to contact me, just to reconnect, or if you want to talk, have questions, or need prayer.
