Larry's Story

Hi to anyone reading this. I'm not really that into writing about myself, but enjoy occasionally reading what others have written about, where their lives have taken them, how they're doing now. So many blanks on so many profiles, and other than a note I posted some time ago, mine was blank as well. So some info on a guy, who in High school was kinda shy and a bit removed from a lot of what school had to offer. A guy that got his motorcycle license and first bike at 16 and waited till 17 before getting his first car. I tried a semester at Oakton, after Maine East, but went on to work full time scaffolding tall churches for an acquaintance that became a good friend. After that I worked for a carpenter contractor in Wilmette. A couple years in I got married. I was 21 and wanting to make more money, and unable to join the carpenters union so I took a job as a driver for UPS in Northbrook. I did that for just over 7 years and then went to work for FedEx Express. in Cary for a little over a year. I transferred to a station in Janesville WI. when it opened and took a lot of the area I delivered out of Cary. I stayed with FedEx for 32 years, retiring in July of 2016. Retirement has been great, but really busy. I've lived in a home on 4 acres with outbuildings and a home built in the 1860's since soon after moving to Wisconsin. It started as a major project, with me remodeling every bit of it, while trying to keep the old charm of the time. I don't think I'll ever run out of things to do...or redo here and I enjoy it. I was divorced in 2007, after 32 years of marriage. This project might have caused some of the wear on the woman I thought I'd be with foreve...Expand for more
r? I believe that marriage had to be though, as I've got a son and 3 daughters I think are amazing. And from that I've got 4 grandsons and 4 granddaughters I also think are amazing. I'm lucky enough to finally have them all within an hour's drive, as compared to times they weren't. Australia was the farthest, and although a nice place to visit, it wasn't easy. It's hard to put into words the feeling one gets when their kids choose to stay close, supportive, and connected after their mom decides she wants a divorce. And I'm glad they're that way with her as well. She's a really good woman and it's obvious she did a great job as a mother. I've also been lucky to have been in 2 very meaningful relationships before meeting the woman I've been with for the last few years.. As much as I think that marriage should be forever..... through good and bad, the relationships I've been in since have greatly enriched my life, I love riding and have put many miles, through many road trips, on my bike. A few years back I did 23 states in 2 weeks but South Dakota is my favorite. I hope to do many more trips at a bit more relaxed pace. I've done many solo but the ride's so much better when you're able to share it with someone you enjoy being with, while they enjoy it all as well. Kind of the same thing one can say about life! Well I hope that if you took the time to read this, that you're at a good place in life and looking at it getting even better. I'm not on Facebook or any other social site, and not even often on this one, but say Hi if you can, and think about putting your story out there. The years had to have done something to make your life uniquely yours.
