Larry's Story
Along with the late Gary Bedard, we'd go into homeroom in order to appear on the "in school" listing and immediately leave school as son as homeroom ended.
This (To me) was the result of an event in the 7th grade. After leaving Clark St. School with an incredible mind for mathematics, (I learned binary code in the 4th & 5th grade under Robert Raymond) My very 1st day at Burncoat Jr. High was in the homeroom of a math teacher whose name I do not recall. He asked me: " Do you have a sister named: (My eldest sister's name)? When I answered "Yes" he said "Buddy, you're going to flunk math here."
It turned out to be true. No matter how high a score I got in ...Expand for more
every test, he flunked me. An inquiry by my parents was met with "We go by the accumulative system here. Test scores mean little."
I was screwed. And from thereon vowed to leave that godforsaken place on my 16th birthday. Which I did, and headed downtown to The Adult Learning Center and received my GED.
Many years later, I found out my IQ score, taken in the 6th grade was 179!
I followed my dream and in 1979 started on the air ay WORC-AM 1310 and a few months later was a DJ at Maxwell Silverman's Toolhouse which Ironically was the original building of Henry L. Hanson where I worked from 1975 - 1985 when they finally broke the union and laid al of us off.
