Larry's Story

Hey Class of '77! Hope God's been kind to you all. I went into the Army after High School (Top Secret Classified Military Assignment in Germany during the Cold War Years). .In my free time I was able to get an Associate Degree in Photography. After the Army, I got an Associate of Science Degree in Mechanics. I worked as a mechanic for my Dad's company. (My specialty is Jeeps). I went to work for the US Postal Service in 1985. 27 years. .I was also a Union Officer and Union Steward for 15 years. I also got a year done in the Associated Science Degree in Construction Technology before I had to quit when I got hurt working for the USPS. I was a Carrier Technician (I teach new Carriers how to deliver the mail). Tore up both legs and knees on the job and am now on crutches, forever they tell me. Too much nerve damage to repair. So I sit at home now on Workers Compensation. Let me tell you, it sucks! I'd rather be working. I got married in '88 and have a wonderful wife and two great kids (a Boy and Girl). And six grandchildren now. Four boys and two girls . My daughter is a med aide. She got married and gave us a great son-in-law a a grandson and granddaughter. My son has his own major construction company and gave us four wonderful grandsons and a granddaughter and a wonderful daughter-in-law who is a NIC Nurse. I have a great wife. (She has to be to put up with me for so long) We met when I was living in Missouri for awhile. 30 years this year (2018). We lived at Beaver Lake in Nebraska for almost 13 years. We had almost an acre of land with the lake on one side and a gigantic forest behi...Expand for more
nd us. I loved to sit on the back deck and watch the wildlife come out of the forest. just about any animal you can imagine (at least those that live in this state) My favorite was watching the beavers take down the smaller trees and try to damn the stream in the forest behind us. When the kids moved out, we wanted a smaller house with close to the same type of setting. Since I've screwed my legs up at work my wife couldn't handle the property by herself since the kids had moved out. So we found a smaller place in Louisville Nebraska and we still have raccoons and deer going through the front yard to the lake and it was so quiet you wouldn't believe it. We lived on the edge of a State Nature Reserve . I'm working on my drawing, photography and computer animation. My wife doesn't have to work anymore so she keeps me company. We found the house in Louisville when my wife worked as a nurse at the Nursing Home that was across the street. We moved to Plattsmouth in July of 2018 so we could be closer to four of our grandchildren and we enjoy it immensely. We also have three dogs now (had more before but the bull terrier mix passed away. He was 20 years old.) and the female, a beagle, watches over me like a hawk and makes sure nothing happens to me. She's as smart as a whip. I guess that's about it. It would take more room to write what other things I've done since High School. Some things I never would have thought I could do, more or less want to do. I hope everyone from Benson Class of '77 is doing well also. Take care everyone. God Bless to everyone. Life is great! Even forever on crutches!
