Larry (Lorenzo)'s Story

Well, here it is in as much of a nutshell as I can place it. I'm not really a "Reunion" type of guy, having pretty much always been somewhat low-profiled and not into bragging about my accomplishments nor interested in who became a doctor or lawyer since school ended. I WOULD, however, be interested in former friends and acquaintances hobbies and interests in the years that followed that cloudy blur called "school". I feel that one's true self is generally reflected in what you do in your spare time for fun, to really embrace life to stop and smell the roses and enjoy sunsets and all the other cliches...It all began for most of us class of 77ers in 1959 when most of us were born. My birthday being in late December (Capricorn) and My parents decided to start me in Kindergarden (First Street School, Ronk) in 64 but I really should have gone in 65 being small and quite immature for my age (throughout all my school years). Anyway, as the years went on, my father, a former Brooklyn prizefighter, originally from Sicily, transplanted his family to Norton Hill near Greenville, Upstate NY where we owned the Chatterbox Restaurant. (I attended up there from 66-69 -It's nice up in the Catskills) and then we moved back to Long Island where I attended Slocum, then Peconic then Cherokee, back to Peconic and then Connetquot. My years in high school were difficult but my great outlet was that I had a job at a restaurant in Centerport during those years, so I was "rich" lol, but still maintained good grades and got a Regents Diploma. I nevertheless always felt like I never quite measured up and was always attracted to the avant garde and outcast people of this world. I then graduated college and switched careers more times than EVEN I can count anymore. I have loved and been hurt and I have been loved by and hurt others as well. Now in middle age there are the normal share of regrets and triumphs that I guess most people experience, if they're lucky. I accept it all. Thank God for the family and friends in my life. Thank God for excellent health, interest in life, good food and great music. No one touch my power tools (I BREAKA YOU LEGS), I love fixing things and repainting old furniture, making shelves and bookcases, etc. I love outdoor activities, beach, etc. and my sister got me hooked on Bocci ball. I'm single again as well, but dealing with it, lol. (anyone sane out there???) I don't settle, I want quality in a person and give as well as I can take; that's fair, no? It seems so sad to me for people to stay together just to say they have somebody. To me that is lonelier than being alone. After my lovely and wonderful Norwegian/Scottish mother passed away in 1994, her Lake Ronkonkoma home came into my hands and some of my main interests are home-improvement, yard work and faux painting. In addition to my late Mom (a Pratt Institute graduate herself...Expand for more
), art talent seems to be inherited. Myself and my Maternal Grandfather Ronald Thomson, Great Grandfather Peter Thomson and Cousin Ron Thomson the 3rd, and many others all seem to be good with paintbrush and canvas, well we all have our gifts. My father's side had/have musical gifts (I tinker with my piano, myself). You can find many Cintorinos on the internet who are musicians (as well as Cosa Nostra, lol). I really enjoy having friends over for movie night and dinner, and enjoy meeting new people and especially love going to the beach and I'm definitely hooked on Ebay. I love studying foreign languages, especially German which I took in high school and college as well as Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish. Forever trying to kick the smoking habit, I also have an occasional glass of red wine or Import beer, but not the way I used to party in my wild 20s (probably to counter the repression of my childhood/teen years; any psychology majors out there?). I love all kinds of music from Pink Floyd to Beethoven. I try to avoid negative people and have no patience for bullies or liars. I seek out honest, sincere and kind people (animal lovers are a big plus) Anyone with whom I went to school, and reads this, will know which category they are in. Since school ended, I have uprooted and or/traveled quite a bit and feel like I've lived several lifetimes in my 48 years. I've lived in LA., Anderson, SC and Syracuse, NY also taken trips to Cincinnati, Washington DC, The Virgin Islands, Florida, and Canada and can still honestly say I consider Lake Ronkonkoma 'home'. For all its flaws and outrageous property taxes and of course the "Curse of the Lake", it's like a comfortable old shoe. I'm in the phone book if any old friends, schoolmates and acquaintances read this, so give me a shout; I love company. I also was a supporting character in a novel written by Keith Malinsky in recent years. If you ever get to read the book "Burying Ronald: A Confession By Mortimer Pentowski", My character is Barry Saspirilla from Lake Ronkonkoma. The author really nailed the true unique personality that is Larry (Barry). It's taken me 48 years to get to know him and Larry is a truly great guy. Maybe someone, equally nice, reading this will find out... In closing, I almost wish there had been or will be a different type of reunion in the future where only the Left-out people attended, not the "Stars" and "Perfect People", the braggarts, but the down-to-earth, "average" people, the wallflowers who were made to feel invisible by the seemingly-strong, but actually clueless ones. Remember, in life there are really only 2 emotions, NOT love and hate, but LOVE and FEAR. Loving people can give and receive love, but people who live in fear act out by hating. Live to love and love to live. Best wishes to everyone reading this. Thanks for reading my "bio". Ciao, Larry "Lorenzo" Cintorino
