Larry's Story
Reader's Digest version: I was born December 1945, my father was a bartender who owned his own bar, (Joe's next door to the Lido). My mother was a buxom blonde with a whiskey voice, she drove men crazy. She was an incest victim at age 11 and an alcoholic. After two beers no one would dare cross her. She drank the nine months she carried me, and was so drunk the day I was born; my first breath was a hangover. I was born with severe ADD and dyslexia. School was hard for me, and teachers were not trained for this. I lost my parents just before my second birthday, my dad's sister and brother in law adopted me, thus the name Giovannetti. My adopted parents were two extremely dysfunctional people, my adopted mother was a toss up between mommy dearest and Cybil's mother. I was abused physically, and mentally....Expand for more
I was also abused by several of my teachers in both elementary and junior high.
The house I grew up in was more like a prison and not a home. When I got drafted in December of 65, is when I started finding out who I really was; and finding my own voice and legs. Several teachers tried to convince my parents that I was retarded, and that they would have to support me the rest of their lives. When I went back to high school to get my transcript for college thanks to the GI Bill. I was told not to even bother with college. My first semester I pulled a 3.2 GPA. One of the things that kept me sane all those years, was my friend ship with my classmates. That yearly nine month period where I was away form home and with my friends. I am greatly indebted to all of you for those times. Thank you so very much.
