Larry's Story

Life Hi Mates: After 1 year at PCC I served a mission in Germany, came home with a bad back and spent 5 1/2 weeks in a hospital. I got a degree in Psychology in 1976. I married in 1975 and we have 5 kids. I started out as a teacher then got laid off, can you believe it? I went to aerospace for 13 years and had lots of exciting experiences, worked on a couple of top secret projects (Stealth Bomber)and then got laid off twice in two years. I went back to teaching elementary school for 9 more years and then retired to start my own company, Computer Education & Business Centers. My second oldest son served a mission in Tenn. and is married with four kids and moved up near Seattle not far from Dave Halverson and two of my five sisters. My only daughter just gave birth to her second child. One son served a church mission in Brazil and the youngest served in Argentina and is now married and expecting his first child. I was able to coach my second youngest son in baseball from the time he was...Expand for more
6 until his senior year in high school. He is quite an athlete. I haven't completely retired from sports but almost. I actually played 2 1/2 hrs. of volleyball last week but, not at the same level as in prior years. I'm currently planning a scout trip to the beach for a week. Over the years I've never been too far from scouting. I've been an Explorer Post Advisor three times and an assistant Scout Master twice. I've been lucky enough to go to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico twice with my boys and my two brothers and their sons. Ten days of hiking 20 miles a day with full 50-75 lb. back packs. My boys want me to go with them when they take their boys but, I'll be at least 65 by then. I just returned from a cycling trip 8/2008 from Oregon to San Francisco, my longest day was 71 miles. I now play tennis once a week in between riding my bike once or twice a week. I am now a vegetarian, long story but its the science and it has made a big difference. I've lost 35 lbs and I feel great.
