Larry's Story
After high school, I enlisted in
the US Army and served 3 of 4 years in Wurzburg, Germany where I continued to play my clarinet in the Army band. It was a great assignment as we toured all over Europe doing what I like best…playing music. I took some college night courses while serving in the army which later transferred to where I eventually earned my business administration degree from the University of Michigan at the main campus in Ann Arbor. “Go Wolverines.” After graduating in December 1981, I accepted a job offer from Exxon (now ExxonMobil). I earned my CPA license from the State of Texas and enjoyed a 35 year career in ExxonMobil’s Tax Department. In August 2016, I took early retirement.
I met my wife (of North Dakota) in Texas. We were married for 21 years. We had 3 wonderful children (see the photos). Kate, married and a mother of 3 boys, received a degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler. She also played 4 years of NCAA Softball. My son Jonathan, married and expecting their first child Dec 2022, received a degree in industrial engineering from Texas State Univ. and is a great golfer!! Lauren, my youngest, married and has one girl, received a degree in criminal justice from Texas State Univ. and works at a law firm in downtown Houston, TX.

retiring, I moved to NY where I currently reside in Brooklyn. Although the pandemic has put a damper on things in recent years, I came to NYC because the city has so much to offer and things to do for a new retiree. I love the city parks, the Broadway shows and tons of exciting places to eat.
Post pandemic, I’ve started to do more traveling, especially the National Parks where I love to hike….even made it back to Machu Picchu in Peru. Besides traveling though, my at-home joys in retirement focus around music and cooking. I completed the French Culinary program at the International Culinary Center in Soho (NYC). I occasionally engage in some private cheffing, but for the most part, I simply enjoy exploring new recipes and making delicious bites at home using my newly acquired skills. With regards to music, I decided to take up a new instrument so I’d have something fresh and exciting to learn and keep my mind active in retirement. I bought a Yamaha baby grand piano and have been taking private lessons to learn new classical pieces..
So far I’m loving retirement…and more recently, traveling to spend time with my grandchildren. I’ve made it to a couple of high school class reunions with the hope of attending more in the future.
I wish all my classmates well!
Cheers 😊 Larry
