Larry's Story
Life
Joined the United States Navy in 1981 and retired in 2007, having served on three shore duties and seven different ships, two were forward deployed Aircraft Carriers in Yokosuka, Japan were I lived for seven years. Highlights: I was on USS MIDWAY CV-41 during Gulf War which launched the first air strikes against Iraq. I was aboard USS DULUTH LPD-6, when during our six-month deployment the USS COLE was attacked by radical Islamist terrorist and we were the second ship on the scene to assist the USS COLE. Currently I hold the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8) and am stationed on USS BOXER (LHD 4)in San Diego as Leading Senior Chief Petty Officer in charge of Logistics Operations. I just returned (June '07) from an extended nine-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf where I was Officer-in-Charge of a forward beach detachment in Kingdom of Bahrain for Expiditionary Strik Group Five (ESG-5) for USS BOXER LHD-4 and five other US Navy Ships, one Coast Guard Ship and a Canadian Navy Ship providing logistic support. I retired from active duty Navy on December 31, 2007 after 26 years of service.
During my first marriage, (divorced), I had adpoted three kids, now 36 26, 24 (girl, girl, boy). Long six deployments take it's toll on relationships. My second wife and I have two girls 16 and a 10 years old. My 36 year old daughter is married and has one girl and one boy (10 and 7 yrs old), my 26 year old daughter has one boy (5 yrs old). My wife (Dr. Elvie Nathanson) practices dentistry Gentle Care Family Dentistry, our dental practice started in April 2003 in Chula Vista, CA. (San Deigo area) where we live. Military
