Larry's Story
Life We lived in Rowlett, Tx. (50-52), San Antonio, Tx. (52), Blacksburg, Va. (52-56), Bangor, Me. (56-58), Omaha, Ne. (58-59) and Ramey, AFB, PR (59-62) Military brats.
One of the Ragan brothers that went to San Carlos in Aguadilla, PR '61 (Ralph), '62 (Larry), '66 (David). Ralph passed away 2 years ago in St. Augustine and Dave is living in Fernindina Beach, Fl. I had the best of both worlds..school with my Puerto Rican friends, and after school, on the weekends and during the summer hang with my Ramey friends. After graduation and moving back to the states I tried college for a while and then spent 4 years in the A.F. Got married before spending my tour in Viet Nam (where I ran into Andy Pacha). Got an associates degree in computer technology after the service and being a military brat thought I had to move every couple of years. Drug my wife and 2 boys from Tampa 70-73, to Houston 73-74, Los Angeles 74-76, Dallas 76-81, Daytona Beach 81-86, and finally Jacksonville, Fl. from 86-06 where I retired from Mayo Clinic's Clinical Engineering Department.
One of the drawbacks of not going to RHS was that I was never aware of Ramey reunions. I did run into Andy P. in '68 in Viet Nam and Linda Orillion in Dallas in '73 (?) but until the internet came along I didn't know where most of my friends from high school were. have been in contact with a lot of old friends since then. Johnny Kientz, Joe Blisseck, and Bobby McHugh were three of my best friends during high school and I have been able to either spend some time with them or talk to them on the phone. Johnny passed away in '04 (?) in the Miami area, Joe B. is retired and living on the Oregon coast, and Bobby Mc is in the Wichita, Ks area. I've also been in contact with Marie Blisseck, Linda Orillion, Liz and X Vera, Rick Rhodes, Patty Worley either in person or by phone/email.
I've noticed some of my friends from Aguadilla listed on Classmates. Daisy Caban, Carmen Cabrera, Luisito Calderon, Eduardo Gregory, Alberto Muniz and others remind me of what a wonderful time in my life those years in Puerto Rico were. My wife and I went and spent a week roaming around the island about 6 years ago and she was as enchanted by the island and the people as we were when we lived there.
I'm now retired and living in the Ozark Mtns. of northern Arkansas where we have 10 acres on top of a little mountain. Life has been good.....a lot better than I deserved and I attribute that mostly to the people I have known in my life. I have 5 beautiful grandchildren that I don't get to see often enough but thanks to web cam and the internet we get to visit as often as possible.
