Larry's Story
I was born... no, wait, that's Robinson Crusoe.
Went from Crockett to University of Texas, imagined I wanted to be a doctor but eventually majored in Computer Science. It was that Gwendolyn Shelton influence. Long standing jr. high school sense of humor locked in forever by discovering Monty Python.
From UT to TI, Houston. A dedicated group of Software Engineers (but we didn't call ourselves that then) developed various TI products between bouts of Monty Python (I fell in with a bad crowd). Married 1981 (for 23 years, RIP Caroline Shurr, 2004). Now she was interesting. Her story would make a good book.
Moved to Columbus, OH, 1984. Went to ITT Telecom, but they closed the doors in 1986... oops. Went on to a local consulting firm eventually acquired by Keane, Inc. For 12 1/2 years I was a consulting engineer at Bell Labs in Reynoldsburg, OH -- nice work -- wh...Expand for more
ich became Lucent Technologies while I was there. Then on to other clients... Bordon Foods, Data General, City of Cleveland.
Not bad, but my real life was even better. Those were also the sailing years for example; it's been too long since I've done that. Caroline was the sailor; I'm good at luffing, getting caught in irons and other similar skills. Photography and astronomy fall in there somewhere, too. I'm better at those.
Got dot-bombed in Jan, 2002. Keane was shedding people like water after a rainstorm then. Now I'm an engineer for the Qualtech Services Group. Caroline passed in 2004 due to a brain tumor... a bad time that; words fail me. Now I'm wingin' it. A little photography, a little astronomy, a little hardware and software engineering. Became a grandfather, 2005. Took up the guitar. I play... well there's always room for improvement, right?
