Larry's Story

Life As a tot, Larry van Loon emigrated to the U.S. with his family on the last North Branch, goat-farm-bound voyage of the ill-fated Andrea Doria. He is still waiting for his ship to come in. During his years at SHS, musical, artistic, and theatrical activities prevailed over reason. Stewart Schenck was and still is a hero. Larry continued with his academic training at the Hartford Art School of the University Of Hartford but moved over to the Hartt College Of Music, same institution, the next year. Here he had the opportunity to perform with and under the direction of notables such as Aaron Copeland, Isaac Stern, and Leonard Rose. This should have led him down a more conservative path. But it was the 70's. After hitching around the country and living in a handbuilt shack in the Rockies, Kansas City happened to Larry. gends like Muddy Waters, B.B.King, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jay McShann, Gregg Allman and Oleta Adams to name just a few. Larry also toured with Blues Brother Matt "Guitar" Murphy and mixed in a touch of organ work for Bo Diddley, Son Seals, Wayne Cochran, and Al Green. The Blue Monday Jams that he hosted for many years had it's influence on the newly re-emerging KC blues scene. *** Nashville is the musical nest that Larry has found. He has co-written with some of the city's finest, such as Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn, and Steve Earle, and recorded with legends like Bonnie Bramlett and Jo-el Sonnier. *** The sordid personal material would require vast megabytes, so suffice it to say that Larry is currently single, lonely and bitter. Ha! Just kiddin'. He has a lovely daughter named Jesse, 30, and a delightful granddaughter Patricia, 8. Life is good! Thank you for your attention.
