Larry's Story

From growing years in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, through initial college years at Hendrix and HSTC, the USMC on all three coasts, family, friends, teachers, church and scouting provided a great foundation for all the years that have followed. They've been great ones! Of course there have been some tough times, but who among us who've been blessed with an abundance of years couldn't say that? Seven plus years in the Los Angeles area with great good mentors and colleagues in business and civic activity are fondly remembered and very important as the birthplace of my first two children. Career change took me back across the country to Atlanta (another childs birthplace,)then Knoxville and Little Rock (another child born,)before landing in the Dallas area... and my final two children's birthplace. Dallas became my "second home" in 1976, even though I returned to Atlanta briefly for more "school" and work. I've lived in communities within an hour's drive from the Metroplex for the greater part of the time since first arriving in Dallas. The 1980's found me ending a struggle regarding a calling to full time ministry and returning to the classroom, continuing work, and enjoying the role of "soccer dad." Yep! guys can multi-task, too. After two years ministry in Kansas (playing a role in the initial recovery of neighboring Greensburg from its awesomely devastating tornado in 2007) a brief transition time back in Texas preceeded a move to Hydro, Oklahoma as Pastor of that community's First United Met...Expand for more
hodist Church for two years. Following a year in Spring, TX, I am now back in Arkansas. Since September 2013, I've worked part-time (often full time hours as needed when others don't show up.... something about us "old folks" ... not allowing a bit of ice or snow or sniffles deterring us from a job that needs to be done... LOL) at a regional convenience store chain. I enjoy road trips, tennis, hiking and biking (10-20 miles) 3 times a week help keep the body fit and occasional trips back down to Dallas to visit with children and grands. Razorback games and the newly opened Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville are only part of the fun things to enjoy here. For all who take time to read this, I would enjoy hearing from you and getting to visit in greater depth than this page allows. If I've spent time with you along the way, you have helped shape me and the memory of our time together is cherished. There have been some really great good times, lots of laughs, some shared struggles, and lots of hopes for the future. ALL of those remain with lots more to be accomplished and life to be enjoyed. If you don't have the time to say a personal "hello". . . or more, thanks for stopping by to read. Your prayers will be appreciated and I'll hope that we might one day visit again. For you who are Class of '57 PBHS grads... what are we going to do for our 60th anniversary here in 2017? I surely hope we can get a reunion together then or any time before then, God Bless!
