Larry's Story

After graduating from Univ of Rhode Island with an Industrial Engineering Degree and MBA, I traveled around the US, Mexico and Guatemala for 3 years then settled in Portland, Or. to work for a Truck Manufacturing company called Freightliner. Worked in Engineering for several years and then moved to Finance as the Corporate Controller and am now the Project Manager responsible for installing the new, low emission engines in our Medium and Heavy Duty Truck Products. Still an avid runner.....logging 40-50 miles a week....love the Portland area. Married to Sandy and have two wonderful daughters, Lauren and Allyson who are currently working and living in LA. Been blessed with excellent health so far.....enjoy gardening and stay fit lifting weights and running. Did alot of marathons over the last 20 years....2:35:00 was my best time for those who enjoy the sport. Love to travel to warm and sunny climates, usually Cabo and Hawaii as the ocean water in Oregon is nothing like the ocean at Manasquan in the summer.....I still enjoy swimming and body surfing but need 70 degree water. I have enjoyed a wonderful and rewarding career at Freightliner.....still plan to work until 2010 as this is the next EPA legislation mandate for reduced truck emissions. In 2007, we eliminated all of the black soot and smoke that you used to see coming out of the exhaust stacks. In 2010, all of the Nitrogen Oxides you didn't see (but were harmful) will also be virtually eliminated. This is a great step for cleaner air as there are so many older trucks on the roads these days that nee...Expand for more
d to be replaced.....If you see a big 18 wheeler with a Freighliner logo on the front grill, that is one of ours.....its a great truck. Hope everyone is doing well.....best of health to you all......during the last 5 years of my 33 years at Daimler Trucks NA, (still marketing Freightliner Trucks as the #1 Market Share Leader in North America, I was appointed as Project Leader to implement all of the Clean Air Low Emission Technology required by the EPA on our Heavy and Medium Duty truck product lines. It was a great experience to launch these "clean technology" trucks to the market, especially my being a runner who loves the cleaner air we are now achieving!!! Visit the Freightliner.com website to see the beautiful Trucks we are producing! Retired from my beloved company in 2009! Did several triathlons including two 1/2 Ironman completions (1.2 mile swim, 52 mile bike segment then run a 13.2 mile 1/2 marathon!). Exhausting but I love endurance competitions! Best known for running the 199 Hood To Coast relay (Mt Hood to Seaside which is completed with 11 other teammates. My team won the first two relays and I am the only runner who has completed in every HTC Relay running 38 consecutive years. There was a movie made about this race (1100 teams of 12 runners totaling 14,000 runners from around the world) called Hood to Coast the movie (get it on Amazon). Myself and my team (Dead Jocks in a Box) were featured in the movie! The box is a coffin carried on top of the vans we ride in! Everyone loves to meet and chat with my incredible teammates! Check it out!!! Larry

This is Daisy, who is resting after a hike in Tryon Creek State Park where I run every day. 5 months old and she loves to go to this wonderful Park, even in the cold weather we are experiencing!
