Larry's Story
Life
In a nutshell...After army & a couple years just getting by, enrolled in FSU and in 1965 graduated with a degree in Accounting. Was a CPA with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell (KPMG now)for about ten years until I discovered the love of sailing. In the early '70s I bought a "Zeeland Yawl", a lovely Dutch built 37' steel yawl which I lived on for about ten years. The last few years of sailing I met my wife Heidi (she was from the Seattle area)and then we discovered a beautiful lake island in Western Maine where, with a group of 8 others, bought 80 acres of land. I built a small house, then a larger one where I am at present. The island is a mile offshore. We use wind and solar for 95% of our power needs, the other 5% coming from a propane generator.
We now have two kids; the oldest a 6'3" high school sophmore and a gorgeous 8 year old 3r...Expand for more
d grader. The girl takes after her mother.
This past year (2004), I bought another sailboat, a 1982 Ohlson 38, which was located in Greece. This past fall I sailed her to the Caribbean, where she now is. After tax season (yes, I still practice)I will head back down and sail her to Bermuda and then to the coase of main. Life never gets dull.
I bicycle (Heidi and I have done several long bike trips, including one trip - pre kids - from Maine to Fla.), cross country ski, golf (still struggling) and, of course, sail.
The one thing I dont do anymore is drink alcahol (or smoke tobacco). After a heart attack a few years ago, it was discovered that I was short changed a kidney at birth. I was never very kind to my sorry old solitary kidney, so am trying to coax as much life out of it as I can... Staying Up in Maine... Larry
