Larry's Story

Fran (Parker Class of 57) and I are still married and living in Landrum, SC since March 2017. We have 3 children and 7 grandchildren that range in age from 13 to 26. We are currently retired (for the third time and still don't have it right!). Before we moved here to Charleston we lived in Chattanooga for 3 years since leaving Canyon Lake, TX and have fallen in love with this area. We really enjoyed being near our son's family (the oldest) and his three children for the first time and they spoil us greatly by including us in family activities virtually every week. Our two daughters live in Charleston, SC and Allen, TX. Robin (the older of the two) lives in Charleston where she has just started her dream business after bailing out of the corporate life as a sales manager with CA. Rhonda is an environmental engineer with a consulting group in Dallas and has a very active jazzercise business going on the side in the north Dallas area. Here in Charleston we are helping our daughter Robin put her business up online and developing her website. That has been far more of an effort than we ever expected but it does look as though we will soon have it in operation. One of questions for this narrative suggests I should include something about where we have lived. That's sli...Expand for more
ghtly problematic because as we were preparing to move here to Charleston, SC, we thought about all the places where we have lived. So far in our lives we have lived in 22 different areas. In several of those we have lived at more than one address. You might assume that we were trying avoid some bad relatives or bill collectors or something but the truth is that is just where our work took us. Some of the places include Texas, Tokyo, California, New Jersey, Georgia, Alabama, Missouri, Lousiana, Tennessee, and now South Carolina. After spending 20 years in the Army, I went to work for General Dyamnics in Fort Worth. All in all I spent 15 years with them in their aerospace and computer programs before retiring for a couple of years to our retirement home on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. The day we looked forward to for over 8 years. After just 2 years of that retirement, we were bored so we decided to sell out and go travel in our motorhome fulltime for 5 years. After we had traveled and camped in most of Canada and all the states except MI, HI and AK we started to manage a resort in the hill country of Texas for 5 years. It's probably not too early for me to claim that it has been a great life and we have done our best to have a ball living it with very few regrets.

Happy 59th anniversary to my bride. We've pushed a lot of that water under that bridge in those years but still finding time to have a little fun along the way,
