Larry's Story

Well let's see I served in the U.S.A.F. as a senior avionics technician for the F-16 block 30 and block 42, deployed to Portugal and Iraq, after which I was assigned to Luke A.F.B. in Phoenix AZ. Got out of the military, Then went to work at Lockheed Martin Tactical Defense and Reconnaissance in Goodyear AZ. The project was called Peace Krypton (you can Google it if you like) it was the retrofit, testing, and development of four Hawker 800 XP business jets that were converted to spy planes for the South Korean government, Once that project was completed I went to work for B.F. Goodrich; This was a research and development project for new types of inflatable passenger restraint technologies for both cars and aircraft. My job was to develop a cheaper and more advanced crash sensor, When 9/11 occurred, no one was buying aircraft, coupled with the economic slowdown afterward, well no more research money, no more job. So I began work at Honeywell Test and Simulation to design, test, and provide support for engineering test platforms which tested both aircraft software and hardware designs for the Primus Epic avionics platforms and various other aircraft. I also did development work for the ARJ-21 Chinese fly-by-wire regional jet platform. Honeywell is a place of constant flux of hiring and layoffs. I got tired of that so I returned to flight line avionics work for business and private aircraft. ...Expand for more
Being out in the Arizona sun a lot got old so I got out of that. I began work on the Light Rail Project here in Phoenix AZ.. My job involved hardware / software integration on the vehicles ( trains aka LRVs), power systems, static / dynamic, and final operational checkout of the trains. Later I was hired by the Rail Transit Authority (Valley Metro Rail). Along life's journey way I got married twice, (first one does not count), I have one son, Currently happily married (upgrade). I left Valley Metro, and worked as Senior Staff for Hitachi Healthcare America's LTD, at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. I was the Team lead engineer supporting the commissioning and follow on support of the Proton Beam Cancer Treatment system. If you get a chance search for the YouTube video query "Mayo clinic and Proton beam" it will come up. Ken Burns did a video documentary about the Mayo Clinic which aired on PBS. I am in the special thanks credits after late Senator John McCain. After about 6 years working at Hitachi I was hired by Mayo Clinic Arizona as an engineer. I run the site partical accelerator which creates radioactive isotopes for cancer detection and treatment. There is a plethora of other systems that goes along with this type of work, so not going into all that. Family: Married - Wife Ariana who is a doctor at the same Mayo site I work at. I have one son Alexander. All the best, L. Patnode
