Larry's Story

Life I joined the Navy in 1967, after finishing a course of instruction at Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas. I served for 24 years as an Intelligence Specialist and retired in 1991 as a Senior Chief. During my Navy career, I served in San Diego, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, New York City, Hawaii, and floated around the Indian Ocean for awhile. We made port calls in Alaska, San Francisco, Pearl Harbor, Australia, Singapore, Philippines, and Kenya. I came to Colorado when I retired. My brother, Steve, lived here and invited me to come stay with him until I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. Still here 20 years later. Met my wife here and we have settled into our home in Longmont. Being born and raised in Kansas, I still have no love for shoveling snow. But, Susie loves our home and I guess I'll tough it out for another couple of years until she retires and we can move someplace warmer. Brrrr! I entered the corporate world in Colorado and became a security manager for a high tech company near Denver. Left that company in 1991 to pursue my own business. Currently own L&S Sisson, LLC, an international home-based business in the wellness industry. Have made several trips to Japan to support my business and reunited with a daughter I hadn't seen in about 25 years. Finally found her, after years of search, through the internet. Got to spend time with her and my three grandchildre...Expand for more
n during my last trip there in February 2002. My dad was a hero to me. He taught me a lot of things, but most importantly, I believe, was his sense of humility. The world could use a few more like him instead of everybody running around with an ego bigger than themselves and their accomplishments. Unsung heroes make for better songs. Never hold back with your kids. Let them know you love them and you are proud of them. Understand that they are not a younger version of you, but a completely independent person. Let go of the small stuff. It pales in comprison to the life-changing "big stuff." On April 20th, 2009, our son Logan was taken from us in a senseless act of brutality. Now, all I know is that I could have done so many things better with Logan. Where are the "do overs" when you really need them. I was able to reconnect with many from my past when I attended our 40th reunion in 2005. The one person I'd still like to reconnect with is Gene Rankin. He and I were best buds when I was growing up and I often think of him, wondering what he has been doing. My daughter, Lennie, lives near us and we get to see my grandson, John, pretty often. We have also just been blessed with a grand daughter, born September 11, 2009. Lennie named her Chloe Logan. Both Susie and I were able to be there for the delivery and found out just before she was born that her middle name was Logan. What a pleasant surprise.
