Larry's Story

I didn't actually graduate in 1962. I would have had I stayed in school, but I was one of those students who unfortunately didn't comprehend the value of a high school diploma, and I cut far too many classes and partied to hard. So, I went into the Army. They wouldn't let me be all that I could be, so I left after three years. I went to college for awhile, then got married, had some great children, and became a firefighter. My children grew up, married, and produced some very beautiful and wonderful grandchildren of whom I am immensely proud. Now, I am retired and currently travel regularly. Next trip will be Europe again, then South America for the first time early next year, and maybe Hawaii in between the two. I like to write, mostly childrens stories, but am not published. Life is good, I am blessed. I attend church regularly and am a firm believer in God. If I could do one thing over, I would try to be a better listener (and I would never have joined the Army). I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I'm not a sulker. I don't dwell on the past. My heroes are Mother Theresa, what an awesome person she was. And St. Paul, who after being confronted with the errors of his ways, changed his life, and set about repairing the damage he had wrought. Admitting mistakes is a profoundly difficult thing to do. I am not into professional sports at all. I abhor reality TV except for American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. I watch the Super Bowl because of the great ads. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the kitchen and add on a new 6-burner gourmet professional ...Expand for more
stove. My dream home would be in Porto Venere, Italy. If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to charities, then spend the rest on a beautiful country home in the wine country, a villa in the south of France, and a hillside home overlooking a beautiful spot in Cinque Terre, a beach house in Kahala, Oahu and a school for girls in South Africa to which I donate.. My first crush got married and has a family, which is great, because she was far too good for me when I was a young man. I am not all that in to style, I just like to look nice. I played competitive roller hockey until I was 55, then realized I was playing with people that were less than half my age. I also broke a lot easier than they did. But my team won first place in our division, and I scored the winning goal in the playoff game (I still don't know how). I love to sing and do so in the church choir. I also do the karaoke thing when time or the situation permits. My favorite artists are Elvis and Dean Martin. And I encourage others to sing too, especially in church. I have this idea that God did not create any bad voices and that there is a place for every voice under the sun. I believe God wants us all to sing His praises and that someday maybe we will, and all of these voices will come together in a harmony the world has yet to hear. Then He will be pleased and we will all be invited to share His home in Heaven. Yeah, I know, sounds a little strange. Although I consider myself somewhat religious, this is my personal choice. I do not go around quoting scripture (except to those people who think they know everything) and I don't corner people and try to convert them; that is their personal choice.
