Larry's Story
7/2008 - I've been married now for 34 years to Kathy, who is Canadian and whom I met in Jr college in San Bernardino. Her family relocated from Thunder Bay, Ontario to so cal in 1963 due to her fathers health issues. We have lived in San Bernardino, Simi Valley (CA), Wenatchee (WA), Seattle, Bellevue (WA) and Maple Valley (WA).
I went to Sac State for a year and a half, then got my Greetigns letter from the Army. I joined the Air Force to avoid being shot at. The AF sent me to Electronics school. I spent a year in Thailand and another couple of years stationed in San Bernardino at Norton AFB, which has since been closed. I've worked for High Tech companies since then. Some of the big ones were Teledyne and Microsoft. I'm currently working for Coinstar.
My Family is basically my life. Kathy and I have 5 children and 7 grand children. Our kids are: Joni (33), Isaac (30), Rebecca (27), Nadya (15) and MacKay (12).
Joni is married to Josh and they have 4 kids: Christi (12), Kylun (9), Evie (4) and Ember (2). Joni and josh work for a tech company where he's a manager and she works part-time getting paid to surf the web.
Isaac is married to Tharon. They have 3 kids: Christian (12), Samantha (10) and Trevor (5). Isaac works in construction and has recently also been helping me remodel a house we hope to sell. He has shown amazing (to me, anyway) skill and breadth of knowledge. I didn't know he knew how to do so many things.
Rebecca graduated from Seatttle U. in accounting, then got her CPA and works for Price Waterhouse Coopers. She's been there 5 years now and has recently been promoted to Manager in Audit. ly passed the Washington Stae Bar and is working in the Seattle area.
Nadya came to live with us from Tomsk, Russia 5 years ago. She didn't speak English when she came, but now you really can't tell she ever lived aywhere but in the US. She doesn't even have an accent any more. She is a go-getter: smart and funny and determined. She loves sports, skateboarding, music, making videos, video games, movies and spending time with friends. She likes to fish and camp.
MacKay is our youngest, though he's lived with us longer than Nadya. We adopted him when he was 2 days old. He's a great kid; talented in many different ways. He has a knack for doing math in his head and he is extemely coordinated. He loves Baseball, skateboarding, music [guitar and drums]. video games (especially Guitar Hero and Rock Band) and Jones Soda.
Kathy has always stayed home with the kids. She has a unique ability to shop. She can find things, especially clothing, when it is the cheapest. She often finds new clothes that are being sold for pennies on the dollar. In recent years she's run a charity where she buys new clothes when they have been deeply discounted and then gives them away to people who have needs. She has sent clothing to Ukraine, Russia, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand, Guatamala and Mexico, as well as helping innumerable people locally.
I get to help her with this and it is very satifying to be able to do this work.
I work with computers and would like to retire, but I don't think that is in the cards any time soon. I stay active, with the younger kids to keep up with. I was a runner for many years, but lately my knees can't take it. We like to BBQ, swim and take car trips to different places around Washington. I like my life.
