Carole's Story

Life I was diagnosed with Multiple Myelome on May 10, 2002. I have been in treatment since then. I have had a tandem transplant (2 transplants) of a very poisonous chemotherepy. I ask that everyone please pray for me to remain in remission and to gain strenght. I have failed to recouperate; so I am in the "comfort" area of treatment. Lots of pain meds!!! As healthy as I've always been, it never occured to me I would get cancer. In advance, thank you for your prayers on my behalf. Carole woods (2004) (2006) Update: I am still in remission (PTL), and will know for sure next month when they do my 10 or 12th bone marrow aspiration. I am a glutton for pain. Thank you all for your prayer support. It's what has kept me going. School I remember going to Rule for the first time when I started the seventh grade. My tough mother did not walk or drive us to school. We were big kids, she said when I started the first grade, and could get ourselves to school. Did I mention we walked miles in the snow, upward both times--barefooted? My kids love that story! :) I loved school. I loved volleyball, and played on the school team the whole 6 years I was at Rule (yes, we would have liked to have more players with better abilities than we had). We did have fun--when we went to meets, we always lost. We had dances at the school, and I went to quite a few, including 2 proms (in fact I met my husband at a dance (but not at Rule). I understand a 63 grad with the first name of Jay (I used to dance with him) has a ministry now. Also, Charlie Lawson (I never danced with him) has a ministry at Temple Baptist of Fountain City. Congrats, fellas. Have things changed in that area? My daughter married the man she took to both proms. We still have him! When I was at Rule High, it was a "happening" school. We won radio contests for most school spirit, and I forget the other contests we won on radio. Although I was not a cheerleader or a beauty queen,I did win a telephone by my mother answering our phone with "Pepsi, please". I owned a pink princess phone with my own number for a year. How I missed that phone when it was gone. We would absolutely not have 2 phone lines at our house. We did have a lot of phone jacks, though. My dad fixed that up for us. However, we did not have one in our bathroom--and both my condo bathrooms have telephones in them. For what reason, I don't know--it came that way. :) While at Rule I thought I was fat at 115 pounds. I laughed when my daughter declared she was fat, in a size 6-8. How I loved school! I cried at graduation because it was the end of an era for me. I hardly ever see anyone from sc...Expand for more
hool; but quite a few Rule"ites" live in Halls Crossroads. Perry Frank and (I'm old and cannot remember his wife's name); Perrys sister lives out here; I heard Buddy Qualls lives in Halls. (a good rhyme :) Joyce (63 grad) lives out here. I am surprised I cannot think of the others that live in Halls. I am sure there are more than I know about. About 15 years ago I went to Rule to a volleyball tournament (Halls won), I thought the school had shrunk. It was kinda dreary, so it made me a little weary. :) I had wonderful teachers there. I forgot the teacher's name that taught Jr. English--she was so tough, but I made it through her with a good grade and quite oftenI have used the English she taught me. (Is E supposed to be capitalized?) See how much I use it. :) I had Mrs. Clark for the office type classes--typing, stenography. She was a great teacher and I just loved her. Her son was in our class and he was a nut and he and I were both in trouble for pranks. One of my annuals has a pix of a group and I have on his big glasses and a weird look on my face:) My daughter met Mrs. Clark recently and loved her. They had a common interest--ME!! I remember the only place that was air conditioned was the "new" wing, built in the 50's. It housed the office skills classes and artdepartment and cosmotology department. You felt the cool when you entered the hallway. I never knew school was hot till I got to Rule. Beaumont was hot, but we just did not notice. None of us had air at home. When we did, only one room was air-conditioned. Did I tell you I loved Rule High School? I hated to see it run down, and then closed. I hope it is not closed in our hearts. Go Golden Bears!!! It sure beats being a Lady Red Devil. Thank you for reading my bio. Carole (better known as Mama Carole) Workplace My husband has been the main wage earner in our 38 year marriage, almost 39; except, when we were at Johnson Bible College for 4 years, I worked most of that time. I have had mostly clerical, bookkeping type jobs,as I wanted to in High School. I enjoyed what was of my (career?), but have had to retire due to disability--the one thing I said I'd never do. But since the cancer I have is incurable and I don't have the strenght to work each day, I had to give it up. I am praying I can get well enough to go back to work part-time, because I loved my job. We have had to move into a condo in Halls because of my health--I loved to mow! My husband's career has kept him in Knoxville, for which I am glad. He is the senior minister at Halls Christian Church in Halls Crossroads (north of Knoxville). Come and see us at the Church sometime.
