Laura's Story
Life
August 2007
Dear Edison friends, I'm looking forward to the reunion and seeing some of you again. I missed the 20th but the tenth seems like it was just a few years go, although a lot has happened since then!
I was married in 1980 but sadly divorced in 1986 . Of course the best things that came out of that marriage were my two oldest children, Joe 26 and Charity 24.
In 1990 I married my husband Joe, my true love (isn't it funny how he has the same name as my son?) He has been a great father to my older children and to our "together" child, Stella 15. Five years ago we and some other couples started a ministry for remarried Catholics at our church, it's lots of fun.
Stella is a very sweet girl, she is a junior at the local Catholic girls high school, a good student.
My son went to college for a couple of years, got bored and joined the Marines in August of 2011, right before 9/11. He was with the first battallion to invade Iraq but came home safely. He's living in Fresno with his wife and my grandson Ryan, who just turned 1.
My older daughter went to college for a couple of years then got married and had two babies, Elijah 3 and Madelyn 1. She works part time as a special education aide, like I used to do. She lives around the block fr...Expand for more
om us.
Of course I also count my in-law children, Steve and Andrea, as my kids. I tell them they are like adopted children who never had to live with me.
So yes I'm a Grandmother of three, wierd, huh? I drive a bright blue Turbo PT Cruiser so my friends call me "Turbo Granny":)
We live in San Jose in northern California. My husband worked for General Electric for 40 years and is now retired. Three years ago my Mom sold the house in Huntington Beach and moved to Palm Springs.
Over the years I have taught preschool and worked at Berlitz language school teaching English. Since Stella was born I have done mostly church volunteer work. I will graduate this year from a three year ministry leadership education program offered by our diocese.(This will qualify me to volunteer even more, or work for the church for next to nothing :) )
If you are from the class of 1977 and are reading this, please post a photo of yourself so that I will recognize you at the reunion. Don't be shy. None of us are the gorgeous teenagers we once were, but we are still attractive. It's just that much of our beauty now is the "inner" kind that comes from the wisdom and grace we develop after 30 years of living and loving.
God bless you all, Laura Larsen(Trovato)
