Latanya's Story
Life
I did not realize how much I didn't like this high school until my kids started asking questions about my senior high experience. I attended this school for 1yr, and went only 1/2 a day. I am from a military family and trying to make friends for that one year was very difficult. My memories are not pleasant: I was pushed & threatend by a boy on the football team to get out of an assigned seat in english class because he wanted 2 sit by a particular girl ( the teacher dressed like a clown doll, but very educated). I remember lunch period was disqusting, never enough food for the students (but there was this young man that performed raps and he was very good at it Rakeem I thins was his name). I remember constant food fights ( a young girl getting hit in the eye with an orange). I remember this young lady in ROTC name LaConya, only because our names are similar. I remember a math teacher name Ms. Ivy because she hit students in the hall with a ruler. I remember this boy about 2' shorter than me just kissed me because he thought I liked him (NOT).I remember witnessing a teacher getting arrested for selling drugs. I remember the assistant principle sitting on the roof trying to catch students cutting class. I remember being t...Expand for more
he last to arrive for the commencement ceremony, because I didn't want 2 go ( had alot of family in town). I thank God for curriculm outside of Therrell, and my high school track coach at my high school in Texas, who kept in contact so that I could still get my full scholarship to college. I don't recall making any friends, the students made if very difficult to be accepted, and I am musically talented, athletically talented, I thought nice looking (5'7"-118lbs-muscularly toned- hair length passed my shoulder). I type all that 2 say my explanation of my high school experience 2 my kids was, always remember how u felt and think about how you may have made someone else feel. I attended 2 high schools in my life (3yrs-skipped 10th), and Therrell is an experience I wish I never had. So the students of the class of 1983, what contributions did you make to ensure a new student feel welcome. I was there and dont remember any kindness or acceptance.Therrell High School Experience has made me a much better person, especially when it comes to how " not " to treat people. Please dont consider me bitter, because I am not, I am appreciative of the experience. I am a much better person!
