Barbara's Story
Life
My experiences have taken me from the classroom to the Board Room and now, partially back to the classroom. For ten years I worked for the Board of Education in several of the Child Parent Centers. Working with pre-schoolers and their parents, on the West Side of Chicago, was one of the most rewarding experiences I had. After leaving the Board, I was fortunate enough to become Director of Services at a Mental Health Organization and now am Director of a large program for pregnant moms and infants. If I think of my most memorable moments I must say they were: working with former Mayor Harold Washington, Linda Yu of Channel 7 and Princess Bernadette of Sweden.
Workplace

the Mental Health Association of Greater. All of these jobs have involved working with families of specific populations .I am teaching Child Development classes at Kennedy-King and Malcolm X Colleges. Teaching at Malcolm X College is really a thrill for me because I received my AA Degree from there. I cannot believe I am there now as an instructor. My work has allowed me to give back to the community what was given to me. Having a undergraduate degree in Psychology and a graduate degree in Child Development has allowed be to do just what I went to school to do....love my career choices!!! In September I will begin working on my Doctorate Degree in Human Services Administration. For me, working in the human and social services areas gives me chance to try and make a difference in lives---just as others made a difference in mine.
