Laura's Story

Life Well, it's hard to believe we have been out of school so long. I was married to Kevin Rider and we have a daughter named Holly. We are now divorced. I still have a good relationship with my former in-laws. I am now married to Andy Gilliland, who is a wonderful guy with alot of special qualities. We have a fantastic relationship. It is a relationship built on trust and honesty. Some of you may know who he is, he went to Oakhaven and graduated in 1980 with my brother, Mark Asbury. I also have two superb step-daughters, Jordan and Kailyn. Holly is 12, Jordan is 11, and Kailyn is 7. They say you only find true love once and I believe that. I also have a good relationship with my current in-laws as well. Life has truly been good to me. God has indeed blessed me. I would also like to add, it is a comforting feeling to have a wonderful husband who has his priorities in order. I know he loves me and appreciates all that I do for our family, just as I appreciate all that he does for us. Also, I have a dog named Snickers, he is a pomeranian! He has the best personality and never meets a stranger. He is definetly a momma's boy. I am truly grateful for the person I am today, I would not be that person if not for all the struggles. If you think you have reached the bottom, just remember never ever give up. In closing, I live a very rewarding life with my husband and our 3 wonderful girls. Our life is filled with lots of love, appreciation, and most of all, knowing that we make each other complete. I have the best husband in the world and three beautiful kids that are unique and special in their own way. I know that I have found the love of a lifetime and I will treasure that all the days of my life. I would love to hear from all my former classmates, so please drop me a note. If you would like to share any comments, please do so. Sincerely, Laura Gilliland School My senior year of school was the best. I participated in alot of fun things and got away with alot of stuff. Tina and I did whatever we wanted. I remember helping all of my class in Latin. I have many wonderful memories of those days. I also made alot of friends. Tina and Beverly were two of my closest friends. I still stay in touch...Expand for more
with Beverly and she has been there through alot. I also have Nancy, that I met while working at Marshall's. We have remained the best of friends and she has been there for me through the good times and the bad. I would not change one thing about high school, other than the fact, I would love to go back and enjoy it all over again. I miss school and everyone that I left behind. Those were the best. I hope to get back in touch with those friends via classmates.com. College I attended college for a couple of years. I wanted to be a computer programmer. During college, I started developing migraines and realized that being a programmer was out of the question. That was a devastating blow but I knew that I had to move on. I dropped out of college and worked a few odd jobs. Workplace I am currently employed at Mid-American Specialties in Germantown. I have worked there for almost 11 yrs. (August will make it 11, 2006.) Our company is an ad-specialty company that markets promotional items. I have worked other places over the years. I really enjoy my job and what I do. I am a Supervisor over about 17 people. All supervisors compete yearly for a trip for two on a majority rule destination. Let's get one thing straight, I am petrified of flying. I have been to the Bahamas on a cruise, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, and most recently to Austria/Germany in March of this year. I have passed up a couple of trips to Cancun and Vegas for fear of flying. We are currently having a contest for an all expense paid trip for two to Cancun, Mexico. I have the best boss in the world, Frank Kassela, he takes the best care of us. He knows how to show his appreciation for all of our hard work. For example, on my 10 yr. anniversary, I received a rolex watch and that's something most of us only dream about. Also, as a wedding present to Andy and I, he flew us to Las Vegas, that's amazing! We also have a suite at the FedEx Forum. I can't say enough good things about my job. It is now 2-9-07, I am getting ready for an all inclusive trip for two to Cancun. I leave on the 14th and return on the 20th. This is another trip I won. I do indeed have the best job in the world. We were voted "Best Places to Work" in 2005. Sincerely, Laura Gilliland
