Laura's Story
Life
No kids but I definitely have pets. My life basically revolves around them now. I got into dog training a few years ago - something I always wanted to do - and it's just taken off from there. I changed careers (HATED audiology) and am currently a vet assitant. I absolutely LOVE it! I compete in agility (AKC, USDAA and some NADAC) and flyball. I work at Teamworks Dog Training (Teamworks Dog Training .com - remove spaces). If I'm not home or at work, I'm there. I teach basic obedience, Beginner and Intermediate dog agility classes, assist with other obedience classes and am their Administrative Assistant and Judge Hostess for agility trials.
I have 3 dogs. Piper is my oldest, born August, 1999. I adopted her from rescue and she was my first dog. She is a wonderful girl! She competes in flyball and does some agility. My second dog is Gryphon, a black-tri Australian Shepherd (dob: March 21, 2004). I got him to compete in agility and he's proved to be a fabulous competitor. Unfortunately, he also has some behavioral issues that make it difficult for us to attend trials, but we're working on it. He has improved greatly and hopefully one day we'll make it to the AKC Nationals. Cadence is my youngest Australian Shepherd. He is what's known as a "color headed white" or "patterned white." He has just begun to compete in flyball and agility and is doing a...Expand for more
wonderful job. He is a goofy little dog with a wonderful sense of humor. In 2008 he's taking some time off from agility to work on maturity since he just turned 2 years old and is basically a knuckledhead. But he's getting better and he'll grow out of it, I have no doubt!
I've been married since 2003 to a wonderful guy who is funny, caring and very sweet. He is so much fun to be around, I never tire of spending time with him (which we do so rarely since I'm always off doing dog training!). Even better, he loves the dogs! Piper is very attached to him. She is a total "Daddy's Girl."
I no longer play my clarinet - don't have time anymore! I did for a while in our church ensemble, until we moved and I got more into dog training. I've honored my musical background by naming all my pets after music (in some respect). The time I spent in band was the best time of my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I would go back and even risk being a teenager again (agh!) just to have the experience all over again, especially in college!
Please feel free to drop me a line. I tried putting my email address in here but it won't let me so I'll try to write it so it won't be flagged. tulipdragon at y-hoo .com (hopefully you can figure that one out!). I love hearing from old friends! It seems like just yesterday when we were all in school - where does the time go?
