Laura's Story
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, attended Southwest and graduated in 1970. Attended Miami-Dade and got an associates degree, then went onto to Florida International University but did not finish. In 1974, was hired by the Public Safety Department,as a new police officer. One of the first female police officers to ride by herself, I served my community for 31 years and retired on Dec. 31, 2004. I married in 1985 to another police officer, Sgt. Mike Diaz and we have one son - Scott Michael Diaz. In 1996, we took in my niece - Samantha and have been raising her ever since. Through my career I held many positions, road patrol, detective, in 1996 I made sergeant and went back to the road for a year. mocks district, the crime analysis unit and the pawn shop unit. In 2004, I transferred to the court Liaison unit and supervised 3 courthouses and ended my career doing that. In May 2002, my husband passed away of a heart attack and have been raising two kids as a single parent since. Am now retired and love it, thank god the state retirement is safe during these times of financial crisis. With one in college and one in high school, they keep me on schedule and busy, have traveled some and out there looking for someone new to share my life with. Anyway still live in Miami in west Kendall and still are in contact with many that went to school with.
