Laura's Story
Well, here's the whole scoop since high school: Always wanted to be a mom, so by marrying a widower with a 2-yr-old daughter (Jenny) when I was 19, I was off to a flying start. Hubby, Gabe, worked nights back then, so I stayed home, took care of the kids (by the time I was 24 we had 4), and cared for several other kids, until my doctor recommended I get some kind of a job where I could interact with adults! I got a part-time job in the Finance Office of City Hall, where I've been working since 1984. It's a really easy transition from working with kids to working with politicians! :)
Anyway, Gabe and I have been married for almost 32 years, with lots of ups and downs, just like everyone else. ...Expand for more
I believe they've made our union stronger, but we didn't just sail through. We have been very, very blest, and now have 5 children (including Jenny, whom I adopted), and 8 adorable grandchildren: 6 boys and 2 girls. I have to say, I'm a very involved, pretty funky grandma, and the little ones are very comfortable with me. As much as I loved being a mother, being a grandmother is exhilirating!
I love to write and have finished one and a half books of my "Second Chances Trilogy", which will most likely never be published, but that's okay with me. Writing it is therapeutic!
That's about it in a nutshell. I could make up something really exciting about my life, but I didn't. Maybe next time....
