Laura's Story

Life Ok......so here is the deal. I moved to GA from PA in the summer of '79. I knew NO ONE! We lived in the Indian Hills Sub'd and I very lucky to meet up with materialistic friends who saw our boat and my horse. How could they not like me? Of course it was easy to pick on the new girl......they set me up with a guy named Bubba who was allergic to deodorant! DEODORANT people! Anyway, these great friends of mine, aka The Roger's, told me this Bubba was a fine dude and all the girls wanted to date him. I should have known what type of evening I was in for when Bubba showed up to my front door with a bottle of Jack Daniel's in his hand.....with no mixer, might I add! Well, many years have past since that fateful summer of '79. I went to college, Georgia Southern....which I guess was the college you chose if you just wanted to party.....well..... in a dry town. After receiving my degree in BS - and we all know just what that BS stands for - I got a job working with emotionally disturbed adolescents in the mountains. I figured, who better to help these kids then someone who had done the same dang thing only not gotten caught? I lasted a bout a year....winters were very cold but I do know how to start a fire from a single toothpick! Remember when Jenny Craig first came to the area back in 89? Well I was a lifestyle coach for one of the centers. Made some good money but decided to follow my boyfriend to Great Falls Virginia. I ended up running a horse farm and opened and developed group homes for the severely mentally ill(a nice way of saying CRAZY). I was a social worker for almost 5 years when I had m...Expand for more
y first child. Somewhere during that time I did get married. Had two more kids. Found out what caused it and......well....you get the picture. In 1996, when my middle child was 2, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. God sure has a funny way of teaching you priorities and responsibility and to count your blessings. Today that child is in remission, an awesome baseball player and sometimes a real pain in the rear. My other two children are pretty cool as well. They are all almost teenagers - on some days they would make a great commercial for birth control. When the light at the end of the tunnel finally got bigger and I discovered it wasn't a train bearing down on me, I started dabbling in the Ebay business. Did pretty well and started focusing my career studying antiques. I used that love of antiquities to join up with a senior appraiser and we merged with a company that provides personal property inventories to individuals. Any item of substantial worth, such as fine art, furniture, etc ends up on my desk to research and apply a value so the client's property is completely insured and documented. It is never boring and I have seen the most incredible pieces of art. Last summer I decided to spend less time on the computer and more time on the lake with people I genuinely love to spend time with. Boaters are such a great bunch of people. I purchased a little Speedster seadoo for me and my kids and we have a blast. You simply can not have a bad day at the lake...except when you let you boyfriend drive your boat and he floods the engine and you have to get towed in........it still was a good day ( :
