Laura's Story
1n 1970 ….the last 6 weeks of our Jr.
Year my father was transferred to Chicago. I didn’t have much of a choice, so we left in Feb of 70’. I entered a high school that was a NIGHTMARE to me and hated every minute of it . Brea was the one place I had lived for more than 5 years . I started at Brea Jr. High during 7th grade . I never made a lot of friends, I was pretty shy ….no VERY shy …but I felt at home there. I finally got through the rest of Jr year and Senior year in Elgin IL. After graduating, I flew back and was able to watch OUR graduation in 1971.
When I came back to Chicago I went to work as a bank teller, dating a young man from my new school …who introduced me to my now husband. I married in September of 1972, and had my first child (daughter) in November of 73. Next, a daughter in 1976, then a son in 198...Expand for more
1. They are all grown and I now have seven grandchildren. So, I believe the good Lord had a plan, though I hated every minute of being away from my Brea-Olinda classmates . I now live outside of Memphis TN…HAD to get out of the Chicago nightmare .
I’ve taken care of much of my secondary education AFTER having my children and after much searching I am now working for my son as an insurance producer. I’m working from home now, which is nice…but I have never forgotten how I felt at home in my Brea atmosphere. I know Brea has changed a lot. I’ve been back for a quick visit with my husband, but I still remember many if you in spite of my extreme shyness! Everyone had a smile …and I loved it. Thanks guys ! I’m still standing after all these years ! ( sorry Elgin, but the truth is the truth ) 😊 I’m not so shy anymore !
