Laurel Anne (Turnbull) Hill grew up in San Francisco with more dreams of adventure than good sense or money. Her close brushes with death, love of family, respect for honor and belief in a higher power continue to influence her writing and her life. Laurel classifies her recently-published third novel, PLAGUE OF FLIES: REVOLT OF THE SPIRITS, 1846, as historical fantasy/magical realism. This book, the recipient of 11 awards, relates the gripping tale of a young Latina in Mexican Alta California during the early days of the Bear Flag Rebellion. Laurel is a member of California Writers Club, the Polytechnic Alumni Association, Broad Universe and Women Writing the West. Laurel enjoys talking to adults and young writers about breathing life into their writing.
Prior to retirement in 2008, Laurel's "day jobs" have included medical technologist, nuclear medicine technologist, microbiology instructor and researcher, technical service manager, senior drug regulatory affairs specialist and environmental health & safety specialist. She lives in California with her memories. and many stacks of papers and books.
