Lauren's Story
Life
I went to UC Berkeley after High School, dropped out, moved to Ecuador, got drafted, spent my Army time doing preventive medicine in Texas and Alabama, then headed north to South Dakota with my wife and step-son. Studied civil engineering and sanitary engineering at South Dakota State University, then headed back to California where I worked in the State Clean Water Grant Program for 4 years. ulting engineering firm which sent me to Bangladesh, then Jordan, and finally Indonesia. I've been in Indonesia since November 1981--supposedly for a one-year contract. I met my wife here in 1984. We were married in 1985, and are still going strong. We have no children of our own, but we raised my wife's nephew and niece from the ages of 9 and 7. I haven't done any engineering since the Asian monetary crisis, but I've kept busy doing literature translation from English to Indonesian.
