Workplace After graduating from Tech I worked for the phone company and then Uncle Sam told me he needed me. I became a U.S. Army Military Police Officer and stayed in the Army Reserves until 1976. In 1970 I became a Police Officer reaching the rank of Lieutenant. I received the Medal of Valor, Officer of the Year (only command officer to ever receive this award). I was very involved with community groups during my entire police career. After 27 years I retired from the P.D. and took a position as Chief of Police for a College District. I worked there for five years, it was a very enriching experience. I started a cadet program, placed 65 men and women in law enforcement agencies, 5 in Oakland. I also continued my community work volunteering as a committee member for the Children's Network and eventually being named Vice President.
