Laurence's Story
2021 was an extraordinary year for our family. I am officially retiring as the Chief Administrative Officer for Kaiser Permanente in the San Bernardino Co. Area, now the largest and most complex with 2 new hospitals, 1200 MDs and over 5k employees. It has been a challenging few years for our Area, sadly #1 in Calif for Covid inpatients and well over 1k lives lost with this devastating pandemic. The personal losses for us included both our mothers and numerous friends. Needless to say, I am looking forward to retirement after 40years with KP in No & So Calif, hospital/medical group operations. I feel exceedingly confident that our teams are fully prepared to accept the challenges ahead. continue with more tennis, sailing, kayaking, camping; also planning to spend time with family (now 4 grandkids), friends and colleagues; also eagerly planning to give back to the educational institutions that allowed me to have this career, including interviewing incoming Stanford students for admission, mentoring UCLA grad students, active involvement in various charitable organizations. After a demanding career that involved commuting 2 hours, 11 hour work days, I am thoroughly looking forward to my "Next Chapter" which include the 3 big "Rs" of Renewal, Reconnection and Reinvention !
