Laurie's Story
Yes it's me, Laurie ALLEN Newbold from class of "78". Like you, I was sad to hear that GRANITE had to close. I was the 8th generation in my family to attend and graduate from there, starting with my Dad.
After H.S. II wasn't as insecure , moved away from home, and 6 sisters. I became more self dependent. I also found out I had an eating disorder. Once I got it under control, I started to care more about myself. .I worked in the gift shop of the famous Hotel Utah and cashiered for two stores of J.C.Penney's. I even dated quite a bit! I went back to glasses, contacts didn't work for me for very long. It was hard to give up contacts, because they were part of the reason I felt better about myself. . Lisa Tweedie and I became roommates at one point, before I got engaged to my husband Scott. I was married in Feb.1981. Lisa and I are still friends today.
What have I done with my life since H.S. you ask? I have been married to the same man for 33 years. With Scott's job, we have lived in both Utah and Colorado. I'm a mother to three adult children. My son lives in downtown L.A. My oldest daughter is a second grade school teacher in West Jordan. My youngest daughter became a MOM last year which makes me a GRANDMA now!
My mom passed away in November 2012, so now both of my parents are deceased. I miss her in my life and my children's life. My Dad and I were never that close.
I would hope former classmates would remember me as good singer(Soprano) writer(yearbook) listener to people dancer(Disco and Slow)
