Laurie's Story
Life
I am no longer bored at work because I have finally taken the plunge and gotten myself into the work that is meant for me: teaching and doing my art. I wasn't ready to take this on until recently and despite the uncertainty, I am my old self again. That is a wonderful thing to be.
In short, living in gray cubicals despertely festooned with the photos of loved ones (why I come to work -- so we can all eat) enduring jerk bosses and people you wouldn't pick as your friends in the outside world, is the worst way to spend the best part of your day, your week, your month, your whole freaking life. d been going to before I returned to Bearden. I also had a love/hate thing for Knoxvegas.
I became a Punk of the 80's and loved college where I made a lot of art, and friends. I put myself through undergrad school then won a full paid scholarship and teaching job at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. I got my Masters and went to work in a cubical.
Workplace: I have kept this old part of the narrative as it really expresses the pain I felt before I set out on a second career teaching college level art:
I work in a gray cube farm but I bring value to my job. Actually, I help support a 175 year old environmental organization in its mission and I do really love what I do.
It is still your life and no one can live it but you, so please enjoy!
Sincerely,
Laurie Fitzpatrick
