Laurie's Story

I moved to Northwest Florida in the fall of 1982. Got married in 1984 and I have been living in the same city and married to the same countyboy every since. We are the parents of three terrific young adults that we are VERY proud of. I went back to college later in life and I have my degree in Tech Ed. I am certified to teach in the state of Florida. I taught high school a few years Business and Computer courses and Media Productions. I taught 8th grade students and loved it. I taught Math, Career Education and Technology courses. Teaching students about Careers, Colleges and Life Skills was probably my favorite course to teach. I also coached Middle School cheerleading at our school for 5 years. I was a member of the Leadership Literacy Team. My plans of teaching until retirement were cut short in December 2014 after a fall left me in more pain that I had ever had (worse than childbirth). After 3 back surgeries my hopes of returning to a normal life slipped a way. Since that day pain has become my daily companion. tion day to day. The first couple years were very hard. I missed my “teacher-life”and being around the students. It has now been close to 7 years I’ve been at home. I still miss being around people. My husband recently retired so we spend a lot of time doing things together. Besides the bulging disks, cartilage being filled with arthritis I have a twisted spine that continues to interfere with my life. Trips I wanted to go on, bucket lists I wanted to achieve and fun things I still enjoyed doing like horseback riding, bowling and skating are really no longer an option. I still look at each day as a gift and thank GOD for all I can do. We live in the country. We have Momma cows and a bull and raise calves. Life is still good! I didn’t get financially rich and famous or win a Nobel Peace Prize like most high school graduates dream of. I have people who love and care about me and that’s what true happiness is so I feel pretty rich! I was saved by God’s Grace and Believe Jesus died for me. I know one day I will be pain-free. If not in this life then certainly in eternity. I pray 🙏 I see all of you there. ❤️Laurie❤️
