Laurie's Story
Life
My life has been an adventure, nothing turned out as I expected when we graduated and I can only say that I have been very blessed. With friends, with family, with success, and with enough failure to appreciate when things really work. Like now. I still live in Park Slope, in Brooklyn New York, in the same apartment I have been in for the past 22 years - I own it and a few years back combined part of a second apartment with it - don't ask, so now it is big and luxurious, and i have enough room for my seven cats: Charlie, Wanda June, who I inherited from my brother Barry who was killed at the WTC on 9/11/2001, LuLu, Maxie, Murry, CrazyGirl, and LittleRedBoy.
For those of you who knew me back in high school, my mother Mollie is 99 1/2 and still going pretty strong. She eats 4 hot dogs and 1 corn beef sandwich ev...Expand for more
ery week. I guess that is the secret to life.
Workplace
I started out in retailing in 1974 and did ok. I was a cosmetics buyer at Macy's, a gourmet cookware buyer at Jordan Marsh, designed novelty and naughty products for Spencer Gifts and finished my retailing career at Fortunoffs where being fired was infinately better then being hired.
Along the way, a psychic friend (the real thing) told me I would work in healthcare so when a friend offered me a job running his medical practices I said yes. That led to a nine year stint with Aetna U.S Healthcare where I learned the business of managed care. And that led to my current position at the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation as Director of Managed Care and Finance at the North Bronx Healthcare Network (Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital).
