Laurie's Story
Y'all remember me as a band nerd...except 10th grade when I discovered weed...don't remember much that year. I got back on track the next year. Thanks to Anna Burnham & Carmelita David. They helped fix me up so I wasn't such a fashion disaster any more. I was dating Lupe Galvan ('74')while he was in the army, and dumbass me dumped him for a white guy who offered marriage. I was married before my senior year. He beat me up & made me quit 3 months into the 12th grade, yo! You guys know I was at FB since kindergarten. My worst nightmare was when I was in the Windjammer & it happened to be the night my class graduated, but I didn't know...then it happened...you guys started trickeling in the club after the ceremonies...I was genuinly happy for you all, yet so mixed up 'cuz I didn't have the diploma. Life's been a rollercoaster. I've got a son & a daughter, and she has a son. I'm his G'ma. He's two yrs old & precious. His dad just skipped town to Seattle and stole him from us on Father's Day 2009. I live at my mom's. She's had a stroke & we've lost Dad to acute leukemia. I hospiced him at home and called the time in the end. My folks had 63 wonderful years in "Paul&Janetland". I keep trying. I'm currently married but seperated from my 3rd. His name is Walt Roussel & is a fantastic drummer who traveled the country with Sam Neely for 8 yrs (dudes...HE PLAYED OUR PROM! how funny) & he was bluesman Rocky Benton's drummer for 10 yrs+. d were on the same page of the obits which made it harder. As for me, I still play piano. I was in several local bands, mostly in Danny Jones & Brush Country in the early 80's, then I stayed home to raise kids so I quit all the partying for 14 years & raised them in church at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship where I was one of several keyboardist in their praise team (aka BAND). After I married Walt, I got back to playing in "worldly" bands with the Swingrays (we've downsized and call it Swingset now. It's Big Band & oldies. I play in Port A during snowbird season with the Medicare Band. I also play retirement homes & asst living places. Those people think I'm "swell" & show much appreciation. I love old folks, they have so much to offer. Also, I've had various secretarial/office jobs,Insurance Offices, APAC, & even at the courthouse (to name a few). I currently work seasonally with Jackson Hewitt income tax service & work the elections as a judge or judge alternate as needed. I do not work 40hrs because my mom's dr appts interfere, but if anybody needs a part-time piano playing secretary, LET ME KNOW. I forgive the creeps & assholes, & even the bullies. I even forgive the fact that I never went to a school dance/prom because NO ONE ASKED. Heck, I probably would have put out...but y'all were stupid & passed me up. lol...you missed out.
