Lavelle's Story
Life
I, born in Monroe, LA, later moved to Houston, TX in 1967. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in May 1981 upon graduation.
Upon completion of basic training at wonderful Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. I was assigned to Landing Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, CA. While assigned to Camp Pendleton, I participated in my 1st deployment to the Philippines. During this time I trained and completed the Marine Corps marathon as part of the 1st Force Service Support Group Marathon Team. This team was the first in Marine Corps history, to run the marathon in platoon formation from start to finish. In March 1983, I was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal and transferred to 3rd Landing Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan. During this tour of duty I was part of the BattalionÂs elite ÂSquared-Away Red Patch ClubÂ. In August 1984, I reported to Marine Security Guard School (MSG) in Quantico, VA for training. Following the training he was assigned to the American Embassy Cairo, Egypt. While there I was assigned to special security detail with the State Department Security Service and Secret Service Security in Jerusalem, Israel, and Nairobi, Kenya. In December 1995, I was reassigned to the American Embassy Lisbon, Portugal. While there I was again assigned to a special security detail with the Secret Service for than Vice Pres. Bush. I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant while serving in Lisbon, Portugal. After completing his tour as a Marine Security Guard, I was assigned to Station Operations and Maintenance Squadron (SOMS), Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, CA in July 1987. I served as Assistant Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Air Freight/Passenger Terminal operations. geant and NCOIC of Fiscal at Freight Operation, Camp Kinser. In December 1990 after completing this tour, I transferred to the Traffic Management Office, Headquarters and Service Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, CA. I was promoted to Staff Sergeant in August 1991; I later transferred to Traffic Management Office, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA. While assigned at Camp Pendleton I held a myriad of duties to include, NCOIC of Freight Operation, NCOIC of Non-Temporary Storage Section and NCOIC of Personal Property Section. In August 1994, I transferred to the Traffic Management Office, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Henderson Hall, VA. where he served as the NCOIC of the Freight Operation. After being promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, I was reassigned to NCOIC of the Passenger Travel Office. In October 1997, I was transferred to 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan. After arriving to Okinawa I was further assigned to the Traffic Management Office, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base where I served as Operation Chief, Freight Operation Section at Camp Kinser. After I was promoted to, Master Sergeant Perkins was reassigned as the NCOIC of the Freight Operation Section. In December 2002, I was assigned as Traffic Chief of Traffic Management Office, Okinawa, Japan and later NCOIC of Personal Property Section. In December 2004, I was transfer to Command Marine Forces Atlantic, Norfolk, Va. I was promoted to my last and finial grade of Master Gunnery Sergeant and will retire at the end of April. I'm married to a wonderful lady from Barbados and have two beautiful daughters and great rottweiler name Duchess. I've enjoyed the 24 years and the traveling the world over meeting many great and wonderful people. Teaching me that around the world is the same. I'm looking forward to
life with God and my family.
